Newcastle United have reportedly been urged to take a firm stance over the future of Sandro Tonali, with Chris Waddle suggesting the club should not entertain offers below £80 million amid Chelsea interest
The Italian midfielder has emerged as one of the most sought-after names ahead of the summer transfer window, with CHELSEA monitoring his situation. Newcastle, however, are determined to protect one of their most valuable assets and are prepared to demand a premium fee for any potential departure.
Recent reports indicate that Tonali could command a price in excess of £80 million, with some suggestions that a bidding war could even push the valuation closer to £100 million. This reflects both his importance to Newcastle United and the scarcity of elite midfielders capable of influencing games at both ends of the pitch.
Interest in Tonali has intensified despite Newcastle’s long-term contract position, which runs until at least 2028 and potentially 2030. While the club are under no immediate pressure to sell, financial considerations and the absence of consistent Champions League football could complicate their stance
‘I can see why Arsenal are interested in him and I can see why he’s been mentioned and linked with dozens of clubs in the UK and clubs abroad as well,’ Waddle told FootballTransfers.
‘I know he’s still got a couple of years on his contract at Newcastle, so if Alexander Isak went for £120m, they’ve got to be looking at his age, the quality and the consistency he’s shown.
‘You’ve got to be looking around £80-100 million, haven’t you?”
Do Chelsea really need Tonali?
There has been alot of speculation regarding the Italian star and it is easy to see why so many clubs are interested. but unless Enzo Fernandez departs the club, there is no need to spend £80 million on adding another midfielder to the side.
There are other areas of the pitch that need to be improved first.
