The Detroit Pistons entered their Thursday night matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans with a loaded injury report.

Considering it was the second night of a back-to-back set against a struggling Pelicans team, the Pistons considered giving several key players the night off.

The veteran sharpshooter Duncan Robinson was among those who were under consideration to sit out. At first, he seemed likely to play, as he was listed on the injury report as probable.

However, the Pistons ruled him out due to a wrist issue not long before the game tipped off. It raised some questions about his status going forward, causing Detroit’s head coach, JB Bickerstaff, to address it after Thursday’s game.

via Omari Sankofa, Detroit Free Press: “JB on Robinson, who was a late scratch: “This morning he woke up a little sore. Had the conversation and the right thing to do was to give him an opportunity to rest because we didn’t want to make it worse.”

That’s the logical mindset the Pistons are going to need to utilize moving forward.

With the schedule deep into March, the Pistons are beginning to think about the playoffs, as they know they are postseason-bound. Soon, playing for seeding won’t matter, as the Pistons are on pace to lock up the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

Considering Robinson is a key player in their rotation, they need to do all they can to ensure he remains healthy when the games carry more weight.

This season, Robinson has appeared in 70 games for the Pistons.

The veteran sharpshooter has started in every game. Robinson picks up 27.7 minutes on average. He shoots the ball at a 44.3% clip from the field. While taking 7.1 threes per game, Robinson shoots 40.3% from deep.

The Pistons have received 11.9 points per game, 2.7 rebounds per game, and 2.1 assists per game from Robinson this year.

Before coming to the Pistons, Robinson spent the first seven seasons of his career playing for the Miami Heat. Robinson appeared in 493 games with the Heat. He averaged 11.4 points per game, while shooting 39.8% from three.

Robinson became a free agent last July. He inked a three-year, $47.9 million deal with the Pistons. Throughout the regular season, Robinson has been a quality addition. The Pistons hope he brings plenty of value in the playoffs as well.

While Robinson’s setback brought on a bit of concern on Thursday, he doesn’t seem to be dealing with anything too significant at this time.
