A former Seattle Seahawks player who has earned a projected $17.9 million during his career has a new home.

On Thursday, March 26, a former Seattle Seahawks player found a new home in the NFL. This player was part of the franchise for a brief stint in 2021, but most recently, he was with the Los Angeles Rams and has also played with the 49ers and Steelers.

We’re talking about veteran cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Commanders are signing Witherspoon. He started 24 games over the last three years with the Rams and had five interceptions, according to NFL research.

The move puts Witherspoon, third-round pick in the 2017 draft, back with Commanders G.M. Adam Peters, because Peters was in the 49ers’ front office when Witherspoon was with the team. Witherspoon has earned a projected $17.9 million in the NFL, according to research from Spotrac.

We wish Witherspoon all the best with his new team, except when they’re playing the Seattle Seahawks.

Seattle Seahawks Have a Date for Their First Game of the 2026-27 Season

On Wednesday, March 25, the Seattle Seahawks officially announced that Seattle will host the NFL’s first game of the season on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Lumen Field.

The matchup will air on NBC, and kickoff will start at 5:20 p.m. PT. The team has yet to get an opponent for the game, but that announcement will be made “later this spring,” according to the NFL.

It’s rare that an opening game would be played on a Wednesday. But, the NFL’s season-opener will be played on a Wednesday instead of the typical Thursday night game because the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers will play an international game in Australia on Thursday, September 10.

“The Seahawks will be added to a short list of teams to have played a game on a Wednesday. Since 1950, there have been just four games that have been played on Wednesday,” the team’s official website states.

It adds, “And by playing a game on a Wednesday, the Seahawks will become the ninth current NFL team to have played a game on every day of the week.”

Seattle will join a handful of other teams who have completed the feat, including the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, Arizona Cardinals, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants and Washington Commanders, according to the league. The full NFL schedule is expected to drop in May.

Draft Time for the Seattle Seahawks

The NFL draft is on the way. In a Tuesday, March 24, feature for ESPN, NFL expert and analyst Field Yates offers up his projections on which college players will go first.

“We still have a long road ahead, with pro days just starting up around the country,” he states in the piece. “But for now, it’s safe to make some predictions for the first two rounds based on team needs, my personal rankings and what I’m hearing from people around the league.”

For the Seahawks, he thinks the team will go with cornerback Avieon Terrell out of Clemson Terrell as their No. 32 pick.

“Terrell put together a disruptive final season at Clemson, as the younger brother of Falcons cornerback A.J. Terrell Jr. forced five fumbles in 2025, after three in 2024,” Yates states. He adds that the player is a “natural coverage corner who could take some of Riq Woolen’s vacated snaps.”
