A look at the Champions League race as Chelsea hang on by a thread following poor form.

Chelsea’s are barely hanging on in the top four race after extremely inconsistent form over recent weeks. Liam Rosenior is not having a fun time of it, with his side suffering another hugely disappointing defeat last time out.

That left the Blues six points off the top four, and their best hope of landing Champions League football likely relies on fifth place becoming a Champions League spot, and if that is the case, the Blues still have plenty of hope, with Liverpool also in poor form.

Here we round up the latest on the top four - or maybe top five - race, including the latest predicted table.

Current Premier League table

3rd - Man Utd - 55pts // 13GD

4th - Aston Villa - 54pts // 5GD

5th - Liverpool - 49pts // 8GD

6th - Chelsea - 48pts // 15GD

7th - Brentford - 46pts // 4GD

Predicted final table

Here is the predicted final Premier League table from OPTA, who use many simulations to put together the most likely final standings.

3rd - Man Utd- 66.02pts // UCL probability - 85.48%

4th - Aston Villa - 65.09pts // UCL probability - 77.50%

5th - Liverpool - 60.34pts // UCL probability - 22.82%

6th - Chelsea - 58.30pts // UCL probability - 9.94%

7th - Brentford - 55.66pts // UCL probability - 1.92%

Note: ‘UCL probability’ factors in the probability of the Premier League gaining an additional qualification place, which would make fifth place an automatic Champions League spot. England would have to be among the two best-performing nations in European competitions this season to secure that additional place.
