His death had a profound impact on Keane, and during an episode of Stick to Football, he became emotional after seeing a photo of his parents while going through some career memorabilia.

Marie and Mossie moved from their native Mayfield to Rathpeacon, where the ex-United captain had purchased them a house, to support Keane's footballing career. “You’re on about photos, look at that there," he said.

"You’re on about family, the ups and downs of football. But when you see your family at Wembley after you’ve won a big game…" Keane was then comforted by fellow hosts Ian Wright, Jill Scott, and Gary Neville as he started to tear up.

The visitation will take place at O’Connor Bros. Funeral Home, North Gate Bridge on Monday, March 30, between 6 and 7 pm It will be followed by a requiem mass on Tuesday, March 31, at 11.00 am in the Church of the Resurrection, Farranree.

The family has requested donations to Marymount Hospice in lieu of flowers.

Marie is survived by her children, Roy, Denis, Johnson, Pat and Hilary, her loving siblings, Ina, Annette, Josephine, Jack, Leo, Michael and Noel, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
