The world has noticed the Los Angeles Lakers streaking behind the steady hand of superstar point guardLuka Doncic.

Doncic, 27, is having another career-year and continues to assemble his best stretch of basketball since being acquired in a seismic trade nearly 14 months ago.

Sitting at third-place in the Western Conference, the Lakers have plenty of work to do before they can rest on their laurels, but they have fared impressively well recently nonetheless.

No one deserves more credit for the team’s surge more than Doncic.

The superstar guard has assembled a striking NBA MVP case over recent weeks with countless 30-point, double-digit assist games.

While L.A. picks up steam, fans are wondering if Doncic has already done enough to have taken the lead in the race for the league’s most coveted individual award.

Los Angeles Lakers continue to push Luka Doncic’s MVP case

Since Jan. 1, only two Western Conference teams have won more games than Los Angeles — the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Lakers began the 2025-26 campaign riding high, but they hit a rough patch toward the middle of the season, causing a variety of question marks to hang over them. Many questions if they deserved to be mentioned with the NBA’s top crop.

As the regular season has reached its latter stage, L.A. has convinced many it is a force to be reckoned with.

Check that.

Doncic has convinced many he is a force to be reckoned with. For those who didn’t know that already.

The 27-year-old Lakers star has recorded the most 30 and 40 point games on the season. Not only that, he has the most 40-point, 10-assist performances of any player, prompting L.A.’s official X account to show the world that Doncic perhaps has overtaken the competition in the race for the Michael Jordan Trophy.

Can Los Angeles and Doncic continue mounting momentum?

What a time to be playing your best, huh?

The Lakers have seen their Big Three of Doncic,Austin Reaves andLeBron James clicking at perhaps the most opportune time.

After months of folks questioning whether the three stars could reach top-gear, Doncic, Reaves and James have discovered some flow and tempo. Together, they have steered to 15 wins in their last 20 outings. That’s quite a sample size.

More importantly, Reaves and James have helped erupt the best out of Doncic, who is looking like the old perennial MVP candidate in Dallas.

Over the last 20 tilts, Doncic is averaging a volcanic 34.0 points to go along with 7.7 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game.

Struggling with his 3-point shooting earlier in the season, Doncic has taken off in that department, connecting on 39.4%. He is showing no weakness.

The Lakers own a 47-26 record and a breathable 1.5 game cushion over the fourth-seeded Denver Nuggets. L.A. also owns the tie-breaker over Denver after winning when both clubs met earlier this month.

With just nine games to go, the Lakers have an opportunity to snag well over 50 wins and march into the postseason with unshakeable momentum.

However, there are some tests remaining before the real games in April. L.A. still has two games against the Thunder and one game against the Cavaliers.

These games will tell the Lakers more about themselves and where they stand entering the playoffs.
