£55m Striker Raves About Celtic Star Shining on International Stage

A £55million summer signing has heaped praise on Celtic’s Benjamin Nygren after being left impressed by the Hoops attacker on international duty.

Benjamin Nygren might not have fully convinced sections of the Celtic support week-to-week – despite topping the club’s charts for goals and assists – but he’s clearly catching the eye at the highest level.

The Swedish playmaker starred in his country’s 3-1 win over Ukraine in World Cup qualifying, operating in the number 10 role behind Viktor Gyökeres.

Nygren set up Sweden’s opener with a clever assist and played a key role throughout the victory.

And Gyökeres, who completed a £55million move to Arsenal in the summer, was quick to single out his international teammate.

He said: “I’ve played with Benji a lot before in the under-21 national team.

“I know him well and he’s done extremely well at Celtic. He’s a great player.

“He’s good with the ball and finds good passes. He can also do well inside the box himself.” [SunSport]

It’s high praise from a striker operating at the very top level and it underlines the quality Nygren possesses, even if he continues to divide opinion among the Celtic support.

With Sweden set to face Poland on Tuesday night, Nygren now has another chance to build momentum and perhaps start turning heads back in Glasgow as well.

He’s only been at Celtic for less than a year, and maybe a new manager could be what he needs to kick on and start to impress the fan base.
