Giannis Antetokounmpo has seen his name attached to the Golden State Warriors for multiple years.

Antetokounmpo, 31, is in the midst of a tailspin season with the Milwaukee Bucks, who drafted the Greek superstar with their top pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

In 2021, Antetokounmpo helped guide the Bucks to their first championship in several decades. He was rightfully the Finals MVP after recording an historic 50-point performance in the close-out Game 6 against the Phoenix Suns.

Much has changed since then.

The Bucks haven’t gotten close to recapturing that elite level and being thought of as a serious threat to take the Eastern Conference crown ever since.

Antetokounmpo has remained elite and one of the best players in the NBA, but after all the drama he has seen in Milwaukee this year, many around the Association have accepted the superstar forward is currently in his final weeks with the organization.

An interesting summer awaits.

Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Warriors? Dubs facing some competition

Once an NBA champion is crowned in June, attention will rapidly turn to Antetokounmpo and the Bucks.

The world will look on as both parties reach an inevitable divorce. There will likely be numerous teams seeking to land Antetokounmpo’s services, and Golden State will absolutely be among them.

The Warriors haven’t had much of an easier season than the Bucks.

They’ve been decimated by injuries and are currently going on two months without superstar point guardStephen Curry in the lineup.

Curry, 38, remains spectacular when healthy, but he is an aging star who demands his team puts pieces around him to allow the franchise to contend for a title.

Snagging Antetokounmpo would certainly make Curry a happy man. These are two players who appear to be an easy fit on the court, thanks to one’s sharpshooting and the other’s explosive slashing ability.

But the Warriors won’t have it easy in landing him. According to a new report, the 31-year-old Milwaukee star will also draw interest from the Orlando Magic.

Golden State likely to get aggressive to salvage end of Curry era

The Warriors are in an awkward spot.

They cannot hit the rest button and go entirely young. That would simply be punting on the remaining time in Curry’s prime.

They also cannot stack veteran talent. Curry is 38 and likely won’t play many more years. The franchise will be left for dead after Curry retires if it doesn’t prioritize at least some player development even while trying to snatch another Larry O’Brien Trophy.

Perhaps Golden State has the upper hand in the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes.

Curry and Antetokounmpo have displayed a friendly relationship to the public. Rumors over the years have even suggested both players would love the opportunity to be teammates.

No matter how badly the Warriors may want to pair Curry with another superstar as they await the healthy return ofJimmy Butler, the machinations behind a massive transaction would be complex.

Golden State has a tricky cap situation and is limited in the roster moves it can make.

Of course, there is always a way in the NBA.

It isn’t impossible to bring Antetokounmpo to the bay, but it would need to happen via direct trade or a sign-and-trade, meaning the Warriors would be forced to mortgage a portion of the already few assets they possess.

All eyes will turn to the team’s offseason once it gets put out in the play-in tournament or the first round of the playoffs.

Antetokounmpo will likely find a new home this summer, but whether that is Golden State remains to be seen.
