‘Really strong’: Antonee Robinson claims Man Utd have one of toughest players he’s ever come up against

Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson has now dropped a powerful “compliment” on his battles with Manchester United summer signing Bryan Mbeumo on the pitch.

Bryan Mbeumo has made a lasting impression on Manchester United fans after his strong debut season at Old Trafford since his big-money move from Brentford.

United dropped a hefty £65m transfer fee and agreed to a further £6m in add-ons to complete their acquisition of former Bees ace Mbeumo ahead of the current season.

Since his 2025 exit from the Gtech Community Stadium, Mbeumo has netted 10 times and registered three assists in 26 matches across all competitions for United.

Fulham star Antonee Robinson responds to Man Utd forward Bryan Mbeumo praising him

Bryan Mbeumo crossed paths with Antonee Robinson when the Fulham defender was at Wigan Athletic and found the 28-year-old to be a real handful on the pitch.

The Cameroon international was at Brentford at the time and admitted that Robinson was one of the two toughest players that he faced in his career.

Robinson held a Reddit AMA (‘Ask Me Anything’) and one Reddit user asked if the former Wigan Athletic player had seen Mbeumo’s recent praise of him.

The ex-Everton and Bolton Wanderers defender responded by saying that he asked Mbeumo for a shirt swap after being impressed with him in their encounter.

“Yeah, I’ve played against him for a few years now,” he wrote.

“To give a compliment back to him, after one of the Brentford games, I remember asking for his shirt because I thought he’s going to go on and do good things, and obviously Man United bought him, so that sums him up!”

What Antonee Robinson found that made Man Utd ace Bryan Mbeumo such a difficult player to face in a head-to-head battle

Robinson’s praise for Mbeumo extended to the attributes in the Manchester United star’s arsenal, including both his strength and physicality as a player.

“He’s just a really strong, powerful player, very good on his left foot, very direct, good at dribbling, good 1-v-1, and last season before he went to Man United, he was very, very good,” he continued.

“Definitely one of the tougher players I’ve played against as well.”

Mbeumo has been a key United first-team pick in the 2025-26 campaign under former Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim and interim head coach Michael Carrick.

Michael Carrick has been alternating the ex-Brentford ace with in-form Red Devils striker Benjamin Sesko as the lone forward option in his Man Utd tactical set-up.
