Chelsea midfielder season player ratings so far, Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer ranked

The Chelsea Chronicle’s series of ranking every player’s 2025/26 season so far continues as we take a look at the midfielders at Stamford Bridge.

We have already ranked the goalkeepers, including loanee Mike Penders, as well as giving our thoughts on the defenders available to Liam Rosenior.

For a number of seasons now, the midfield has been the strongest position at Stamford Bridge, with Reece James being added to the options on occasion.

QUARTER-FINAL 1: Liam Rosenior vs Frank Lampard

Let’s take a look at our ratings for the midfielders at Chelsea so far this season.

Chelsea’s midfielder ratings so far this season

Enzo Fernandez: 9/10

Enzo Fernandez has been one of the most impressive players since Rosenior came in, with his eye for goal improving every season.

He currently sits on 12 goals and six assists during this campaign, and has made the number 10 role his own since the new manager arrived.

With speculation rife regarding a potential Fernandez exit, some Chelsea fans may not realise yet just how impactful his departure would be on the side, particularly in the final third

Moises Caicedo: 8/10

Moises Caicedo’s electric start to the season saw some pundits ranking him ahead of Declan Rice in the battle for the best Premier League midfielder.

In recent months, the Ecuador international hasn’t quite hit the same heights, but no Chelsea fan would feel confident in a big game without him in the side.

Caicedo publicly committed his future to the club in a recent interview, and he will be a crucial member of the squad for whoever is in charge next season.

Andrey Santos: 8/10

A really impressive first season as a Chelsea player from Andrey Santos, who has found appearances far more regular to come by in 2026.

This has likely come due to his previous relationship with the manager. Rosenior is a big fan of Santos from their time together at Strasbourg.

The Brazil international has a great chance of being called up to the 2026 World Cup squad, and his performances at Stamford Bridge would see that be deserved.

Romeo Lavia: 4/10

It has unfortunately been more of the same for Romeo Lavia, with injuries severely impacting his ability to feature for the Blues.

Lavia is still yet to complete 90 minutes for Chelsea, and it is becoming increasingly hard to justify his price tag after signing him nearly three years ago.

The one positive is that the Belgian has returned to fitness at a crucial point of the season, even turning down an international call-up to work on his condition for the Blues.

Dario Essugo: N/A

After featuring sporadically at the Club World Cup, Dario Essugo has made just one appearance for Chelsea this season after his own injury battles.

This came in the FA Cup against Wrexham, where he provided two assists in extra-time to help the Blues advance to the quarter-finals.

Another player who is now fit and ready, Rosenior will certainly be looking to him if they are trying to hold on to a lead late in a game.

Cole Palmer: 5/10

The toughest midfielder to mark this season. Cole Palmer has seen his campaign ruined by injuries and playing when he simply doesn’t look fit.

There have still been more than enough signs of his quality, and the partnership he has formed with Joao Pedro has been very impressive.

The lack of rest has played a factor in all of this, and his hopes of representing England at the World Cup suggests there will be no break coming anytime soon for Chelsea’s star man.
