How Ayden Heaven fared for England U20 vs Italy after senior team training call-up

Ayden Heaven is the latest Manchester United player to make an appearance for his country this month, as he impressed for England U20.

It has been a good week for Ayden Heaven at his England camp with Ben Futchner’s U20 side.

Heaven stepped into first-team training for England, called up to help in Thomas Tuchel’s sessions, similarly to how Shea Lacey was in November.

Now, Heaven has been in action for his national side over in Italy.

Ayden Heaven scores for England U20

Heaven started for the England U20s on Friday afternoon as they took on Italy away from home in a friendly.

England took a 3-0 lead, with Heaven himself getting among the goals as he scored the third for his side.

It was a corner delivered by brace scorer, Brighton’s Tom Watson, with Heaven rising highest to meet the ball and head it with power into the net.

This was Heaven’s first goal for England as a U20, capping off a brilliant week for him personally, in which he will have surely shown Tuchel why he’s a future international.

But England’s lead didn’t last as Italy came from 3-0 down to draw the game 3-3 with some really good goals.

Manchester United can make Ayden Heaven a late World Cup contender

While it’s good to see Heaven shining for the U20s, ultimately, he is already good enough to be challenging for a place in the senior side.

When playing for United, Heaven has shown he is first-team ready, winning the club’s player of the month award for December with brilliant performances.

Now, Michael Carrick might need Heaven to start against Leeds, with Harry Maguire suspended, along with the existing injury list. This is a big chance for Heaven.

If he starts and plays well, maybe he makes a claim to start for United against Chelsea and throughout the rest of the seven-game run-in, which would surely give Tuchel something to think about, considering England’s lack of centre-back depth.

The ability Heaven has should already see him considered one of England’s best, with his call-up to training proving it.

But at the very least, England already seem to have an eye on him for the future.
