The Las Vegas Raiders are one of the most storied franchises in the NFL. Throughout the decades of existence, they have seen some of the NFL’s best players don the black and silver.
On Friday, the team announced that Barret Robbins, a former All-Pro and Pro Bowl center, had passed away. He was 52 years old. The cause of his death has not yet been made public.

“The Raiders Family is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Barret Robbins. Oakland’s second-round draft pick out of TCU in 1995, he was among the league’s top centers over nine seasons with the Raiders, earning first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors in 2002. He played in 121 career games with 105 starts, all with the Silver and Black. The thoughts and condolences of the entire Raider Nation are with Barret’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
Robbins famously missed the Super Bowl in 2002, the same year he was named an All-Pro and Pro Bowler, after a mental health episode led him to disappear from the team the night before.
In his post NFL career, Robbins has battled mental health issues as well. In 2005, he was involved in a brawl with Miami Police, which led to him being shot three times. He pled guilty to five criminal charges stemming from that incident, including attempted murder.
In 2016, Robbins was charged with assaulting a woman and her daughter outside of a Miami hotel. In 2020, he was arrested three times in one month in south Florida.
“Please pray for their girls, his family and tons of teammates who will be affected by this!” former Raiders teammate Tim Brown wrote on social media. “It’s unfortunate that his life was never the same after he was not allowed to play in the Super Bowl! Rest Peacefully BR, you deserve it!”
