If Liverpool want to replace Mo Salah, one of the best wingers in Europe would be a good place to start.

Liverpool fans had an exciting summer last year and many would have thought that the transfer window was enough to secure another Premier League title.

Things haven’t turned out quite like that though with Mohamed Salah’s departure at the end of the season being the perfect example of where everything went wrong. Had the 33-year old declined by 50% even, there would still have been a chance for Arne Slot to repeat his first season miracle, such was the ridiculous quality of the Egyptian’s campaign. Now that his exit has been confirmed, Liverpool need to find a replacement.

Why Liverpool should make Khvicha Kvaratskhelia move

Michael Olise has been heavily linked, however, with a £125m release clause, they might be better served looking elsewhere. One player who often gets missed in these discussions but who was a Liverpool target before, is Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Paris Saint Germain maverick flies under the radar at times despite being a throwback to an age when wingers would take defenders on, score goals and create chances for others.

Kvaratskhelia has now been linked with a move to Arsenal, via The Independent and, if he is available, Liverpool should be picking up the phone too to ask how much it would take to sign the Georgian. He is everything that Slot has moaned about lacking this season – a maverick, a magician, a player capable of winning a game from a standing start. If you are replacing Salah, replace him with a player who will excite the fans and get them off their seats.

Could Mohamed Salah make shock move?

Fabrizio Romano has hinted PSG could consider a shock move for Salah even though the Saudi Pro League looks a more likely destination: “We know Salah has always had options,” the journalist said. “Before his last renewal, Premier League clubs made calls. Paris Saint-Germain looked at him too, but talks never became serious.

“And then of course there’s Saudi Arabia. They’ve wanted Salah for a long time. You’ll remember summer 2024, when Saudi clubs tried until the very final hours of the window to sign him – Jurgen Klopp was still there and Liverpool said absolutely no.

“That ambition hasn’t changed. The Saudi Pro League still sees Mo Salah as the marquee name, both for his legacy and for what he represents internationally. They want him not only for football but also marketing – to be one of the faces of their project ahead of future tournaments, including the World Cup in Saudi.

“It’s now up to Salah: whether he wants that move, or to continue in Europe for one more challenge. At the moment, his decision is only to leave Liverpool – the rest will develop soon.” Too late for a swap deal?
