Tyrese Maxey leads the NBA in minutes played

When it comes to the Philadelphia 76ers‘ long list of core players returning to action after extended absences, Tyrese Maxey will be the final piece to the puzzle.

On Saturday, March 28, the Sixers will have three starters back on the court that they didn’t have just last week. Maxey will not be involved.

The star guard is still dealing with a tendon injury in his right pinkie finger. When Maxey was initially diagnosed with his setback, the Sixers put him on a three-week timeline for a re-evaluation.

That announcement came on March 7.

20 days later, the Sixers are now seeing Maxey get some shots up at practice

The Sixers held a practice session on Friday before taking a trip to Charlotte, North Carolina.

Since Maxey’s evaluation date hasn’t come up yet, he doesn’t have an official medical update. But progress seems to be in play.

When Maxey personally addressed reporters, he confirmed that he’s still sporting a splint, which recently changed. Right now, his focus is on conditioning, as he’ll have to hit the ground running when he is cleared to play again.

The Sixers Are Getting Healthy At The Right Time

There’s never a good time for injuries, but the Sixers are surely getting healthy at the right time.

While Paul George wasn’t out due to a setback, his 25-game suspension allowed him to recover from the minor ailments he had to play through this year. George was back on the court for the Sixers’ Wednesday night win over the Chicago Bulls.

Joel Embiid has been dealing with an oblique strain, which kept him off the court for nearly one month. The star center was cleared to make his return against the Bulls as well, and he produced like he never left.

Embiid checked in for 28 minutes. The star center shot 12-17 from the field, scoring 35 points. He came down with six rebounds and produced seven assists.

Kelly Oubre will be the next player to return to action for Philadelphia on Saturday. Following Friday’s session, Oubre revealed that he was going to play after recovering from an elbow sprain. He last played on March 10.

The Sixers will tip off against the Hornets at 6 PM ET Saturday. They are 40-33 going into the matchup, looking to improve their spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
