SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - JANUARY 20: De'anthony Melton #8 of the Golden State Warriors reacts after he was called for a foul against the Toronto Raptors in the first half at Chase Center on January 20, 2026 in San Francisco, California.

The Golden State Warriors are set to play the Washington Wizards on Friday night in the Bay Area.

While Golden State is a favorite for the game against the lowly Wizards, the team is dealing with several major injury concerns for the contest, which could be compounded by the latest injury update to one of their key players.

Before the game, Warriors guard De’Anthony Melton was downgraded to questionable and could be at risk of missing the matchup against Washington.

The Warriors were already set to miss several of their top players for the Friday night game against the Wizards, and now could also see Melton miss the contest.

Melton, a 27-year-old coming off a torn ACL suffered last year, was officially downgraded to questionable for the upcoming game, as announced by the team.

De’Anthony Melton (injury management) downgraded to questionable Friday.

While he has played in 42 games this season, recently on a hot streak amid all the other injuries to the Warriors, he could miss the contest due to ‘left knee injury management.’

The update, due in part to the fact that it isn’t a new injury, isn’t the worst news in the world for Golden State, as he’s already missed time this season for ‘injury management.’ Still, having as healthy of a roster as possible is important for the Warriors at this point in the season, especially if they want to have any chance of competing in the playoffs.

Melton is averaging 13 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists on 41.5% shooting for Golden State this year. With Steph Curry and others out, he’s put together multiple games with at least 20 points in March, and his upcoming free agency remains a key decision for the front office this summer.

Recently, it was reported that Melton wants to be ‘rewarded‘ by the Warriors in free agency this summer, which could hinder the team’s ability to have enough cap space to build a strong roster around Curry in the final chapter of his career.

Golden State Warriors Injury Report vs Washington Wizards

Melton is questionable for the game against the Wizards, and while his exact status for the matchup is still unknown, Golden State has several other key players listed on the injury report for Friday night.

Curry remains out with a knee injury. He has yet to scrimmage with the team, and while there was previously hope that he would return around this time, there is no direct timeline for him to get back on the court.

According to head coach Steve Kerr, both Curry and the team expect him to get back on the court before the Play-In Tournament, but as of now, they won’t upgrade him until he is fully healthy.

Quick update on NBA Today including the latest on Moses Moody as Warriors assess the extent of damage to his left knee

Along with Curry, his brother, Seth Curry (thigh), Jimmy Butler (ACL), Al Horford (lower leg), Quinten Post (foot) and Moses Moody (knee) are all ruled out for the game.

Both Butler and Moody will be sidelined for the rest of the season with brutal knee injuries, but Horford’s injury isn’t expected to be too long-term. Curry’s status is still uncertain, but he’s missed major time this season with several health concerns, with no direct injury return timeline from this current injury.

The Warriors are 35-38 and looked to be locked into the Play-In Tournament. Getting the franchise star in Curry back healthy remains the team’s biggest priority, and while wins at this point in the season are important, the Bay Area franchise doesn’t expect to have any major title hopes in the 2025-26 campaign.
