The Philadelphia Eagles have been at the center of wide receiver trade speculation all offseason. Now, one new prediction is directly tying A.J. Brown to a potential draft-night blockbuster.

According to Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski, the New England Patriots could make a major move for Brown by sending the No. 31 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft to Philadelphia. The idea isn’t coming out of nowhere. Trade chatter around Brown has lingered for months, especially as the Eagles weigh financial flexibility and long-term roster construction.

“The Patriots won’t find as impactful a performer, at least in the short term, with this year’s 31st overall pick,” Sobleski wrote. “New England is again operating at a Super Bowl standard. Brown can help elevate the entire offense while reuniting with his first head coach, Mike Vrabel.”

The last part stands out. The Vrabel connection adds real context to what might otherwise feel like a generic trade pitch.

Patriots Connection to A.J. Brown Makes This More Than Speculation

Brown’s history with Mike Vrabel dates back to their time together in Tennessee, where the receiver quickly developed into one of the league’s most physical and reliable playmakers.

That familiarity is extremely important in these trade talks.

If New England is serious about getting back to the Super Bowl after coming up short, adding a proven No. 1 receiver like Brown would immediately reshape the offense. Sobleski’s point is simple: you’re unlikely to land that kind of impact player at pick No. 31.

And the market supports that thinking.

Just this offseason, the Denver Broncos sent a first-round pick to acquire Jaylen Waddle, a deal that helped reset expectations for elite wide receivers on the trade market. If Waddle commands a first, Brown could easily justify similar or greater value.

He is a more proven and physical No. 1 wideout.

That raises the real question. Would the Patriots actually pay that price?

Because from New England’s perspective, this isn’t just about adding a talented wide receiver. It’s about deciding whether a late first-round pick is more valuable than a known difference-maker with an established connection to the head coach.

Eagles’ Timing and Leverage Could Complicate Any Deal

From Philadelphia’s side, the situation is more complicated.

The Eagles have shown no urgency to move Brown, and there are strong financial reasons to wait.

Trading him before June 1 would trigger a massive dead cap hit, making a pre-draft deal difficult to justify. Waiting until after June 1 provides more flexibility, but it also comes with a tradeoff.

Philadelphia would likely miss out on acquiring immediate draft capital in the current cycle.

Sobleski hinted at that tension.

“Philadelphia could be patient to preserve as much financial flexibility as possible,” he wrote. “But it will be difficult for general manager Howie Roseman to forgo a first-round pick this year when Brown’s value can diminish.”

That’s where things get interesting.

If the Eagles believe Brown’s value is at its peak right now, the idea of landing a first-round pick could be tempting.

But the Eagles’ front office has been adamant about keeping Brown, recognizing how critical he is to their success.

And if a deal does materialize, don’t assume No. 31 alone gets it done.

With the wide receiver market shifting, the Eagles may ultimately push for more.
