Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James followed up one of his most meaningful NBA performances with a quieter outing in the G League, as his role continues to fluctuate between levels late in the season.
Just one day after logging significant minutes in the Lakers’ 137-130 win over the Indiana Pacers, Bronny turned in a modest performance for the South Bay Lakers in their 137-114 victory over the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
Bronny finished with nine points on 4-of-7 shooting, along with five assists, three rebounds and one steal in 27 minutes. He also committed three turnovers in a game where South Bay pulled away late.
Notably, it marked the first time since December that Bronny failed to score in double figures in a G League game, a reflection of the consistency he has shown at that level throughout the season.
Meaningful NBA Minutes Highlight Growth
Bronny’s G League outing came immediately after a performance that underscored his growing role at the NBA level.
In 12 minutes against Indiana, he recorded four points, two steals, one rebound, one assist and one block on 2-of-4 shooting while holding his own in a competitive stretch.
His biggest moment came late in the fourth quarter, when he knocked down a 17-foot pull-up jumper with 3:50 remaining to extend the Lakers’ lead to 128-113 as the shot clock wound down.
Head coach JJ Redick described the shot as “big to kind of settle us” after the Pacers had cut the deficit from 29 points to 13.
“Just trying to prove myself,” Bronny said after the game.
The performance drew praise from LeBron James, who called it “real, meaningful minutes” as the two shared the floor in another milestone moment.
G League Production Remains Strong
Despite the quieter showing, Bronny’s overall G League production has remained steady.
Across 13 games, including 12 starts, he is averaging 14.8 points, 3.6 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals, while shooting 41.7% from three-point range.
Those numbers reflect a player continuing to develop as both a scorer and facilitator while improving his perimeter shooting.
South Bay was led by Nick Smith Jr., who scored 34 points off the bench, while Drew Timme added 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Bronny’s role in the contest leaned more toward playmaking and maintaining offensive flow.
Development Path Remains Focus
Bronny’s progression continues to be closely monitored following his return from cardiac arrest in July 2023, which required surgery to correct a congenital heart defect.
Since then, the focus has been on building consistency across both the G League and NBA levels.
“Physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally, he’s back,” LeBron said.
The Lakers have remained patient, using G League assignments to keep him in rhythm while integrating him into NBA rotations when opportunities arise.
Status Set for Nets Matchup
Following his G League appearance, Bronny has been recalled by the Lakers and is not listed on the injury report, meaning he will be available for Thursday’s matchup against the Brooklyn Nets.
With the Nets already eliminated from playoff contention, the Lakers could continue to evaluate rotation options while managing workloads ahead of the postseason.
Bronny’s availability provides added depth, particularly after his recent showing in meaningful minutes.
Looking Ahead
While his G League performance did not match his recent scoring output, Bronny’s overall trajectory remains positive.
The combination of steady G League production and impactful NBA moments points to a player continuing to grow into his role.
As the Lakers approach the playoffs, Bronny’s development — particularly his ability to contribute in short, meaningful stretches — could position him for additional opportunities when needed.
