Wilmington actor Drew Scheid lands role on new NBC comedy with Tracy Morgan, Daniel Radcliffe

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Drew Scheid spent part of his teenage years acting in Wilmington, and now audiences can see him on NBC’s new comedy series The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins alongside stars Tracy Morgan and Daniel Radcliffe.

Scheid plays Shane E. Quinn III, the assistant to Monica Reese-Dinkins, the title character’s former wife and current manager played by Erica Alexander. The show follows Reggie Dinkins, a former NFL player ruined by a gambling scandal, who is trying to rebuild his reputation. Radcliffe, who audiences know from his years of playing Harry Potter in films, plays Arthur Tobin, who Reggie hires to shoot a documentary about his comeback.

“Best character name I’ve ever had, I will say,” Scheid said. “That is no contest there. That’s just a great name. And then it leads to a good joke in the first act.”

Scheid and his brother Owen were guests on the “1on1 with Jon Evans” podcast in 2021, when they starred in the award-winning independent film Drought, which was shot in southeastern North Carolina in 2018 and released in 2020. He’s also appeared in movies and other television productions including Mare of Easttown, which starred Kate Winslett*,* and NCIS: New Orleans, where he played opposite veteran actor Scott Bakula in several episodes. He landed the role of Shane E. Quinn III through an in-person audition in October of last year, a rarity in an industry that he says has shifted largely to self-taped auditions.

“It felt like old school Hollywood of like, ‘All right, I’m in New York and I got an audition. I’m going to go to this building’,” Scheid said. “I’m going to talk to the doorman and do it in front of him. And it was very fun.”

The show is produced by Robert Carlock and Tina Fey. Scheid said he is a huge fan of their work, including 30 Rock, Girls 5 Eva and Kimmy Schmidt.

“I’m the biggest 30 Rock fan,” Scheid said. “That’s my comfort watch is every night I watch 30 Rock pretty much and don’t get tired of it.”

Working alongside veterans like Morgan, Ratcliffe and Alexander proved to be a tremendous experience for Scheid. With his character being the assistant to Alexander’s Monica, he spent a lot of time on-set learning from her.

“Erica Alexander is one of the funniest, nicest people on earth,” Scheid said. I’m kind of tailing her the whole time. She is so talented and I learned so much from her just watching and getting to hear so many amazing stories. It was like the most amazing acting class of just getting to watch these pros. I had the best week of my life and was like, ‘Gosh, I wish I could live here!”

Scheid appears in several scenes in episode #6 of Dinkins, and will continue the role in the next episode. He said Shane also returns later in the season in a different capacity.

The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins airs at 8:30 p.m. on Monday nights on WECT and NBC.
