Arsenal have been dealt a major injury scare after Noni Madueke was substituted during England's friendly with Uruguay. The Three Lions winger started the game for Thomas Tuchel's side but was taken off in the 38th minute.

The incident occurred five minutes earlier, having looked to drive into the Uruguay box from the right-hand flank. Madueke was clattered into by Rodrigo Aguirre, and there were half-hearted appeals for a foul, but the referee waved play on.

The Arsenal star was down on the ground receiving lengthy treatment before getting back to his feet and attempting to play on. However, despite his best efforts, he went down again a few minutes later and was replaced by West Ham's Jarrod Bowen.

It's the latest in a string of injury blows for Mikel Arteta, with six players ruled out of the recent international break.

Eberechi Eze, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel, William Saliba, Jurrien Timber and Martin Odegaard were all ruled out of their countries' squads. It's unclear the extent of the injury, but Madueke appeared to be holding his face as he made his way off the pitch.

The Gunners' star had been given an opportunity to stake his claim ahead of the World Cup this summer in the United States. He was the only Arsenal star named in the starting XI, with teammate Ben White named on the bench.

The likes of Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka were not part of the squad to face Uruguay, with Tuchel taking a look at a plethora of different stars in the final warm-up game ahead of this summer's tournament.

Arteta and Arsenal will be hoping the injury to Madueke is not too serious,. He was able to walk off the pitch but made his way straight down the tunnel.
