Ty Simpson has amazed everyone with his amazing performances during Alabama Pro Day and the NFL Combine so far. Despite not having enough experience in the NFL and being questioned for just being moderately fit for the NFL standard, he has shown incredible arm strength.

Simpson has stolen the show, and many analysts are considering him a first-round quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft.
With that being said, ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum recently spoke highly of Simpson during an appearance on ESPN Get Up and praised the Alabama star for his balanced footwork while comparing him to the San Francisco star quarterback Brock Purdy.
Tannenbaum compared and praised both Simpson and Purdy, noting that they are both amazing ball throwers and have shown elite arm strength in their careers so far.
“If you’re the one betting your job on this decision, do those things become a concern? Absolutely. That’s why the Jets are there today. And again, when you speak to people around the league, Greeny, in the offseason so far, his arm strength has surpassed expectations because by NFL standards, he is height-deficient.
But to me, when I watch the film, and I really agree with a lot of what Jordan said, he reminds me of Brock Purdy and Baker Mayfield. Maybe not the arm strength of Baker Mayfield, but he can get the ball down the field. And again, there was a four-game stretch, Greeny. Georgia, Vandy, Missouri, and Tennessee.”

Mel Kiper Doesn’t Lean Into the Ty Simpson Is Better Than Shedeur Sanders Debate
Though Simpson has impressed everybody with his performance and is the talk of the town currently, especially with analysts like Dan Orlosvky claiming that he is QB1 in the 2026 draft class, Simpson’s lack of experience is still a big question mark for many analysts.
Analyst Mel Kiper Jr. has always been a big supporter of Shedeur Sanders, who has been a prominent quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in the 2025 season of the NFL, when Field Yates proposed that the Browns should look into drafting Simpson, Kiper Jr. said:
“The Jets have to be figuring out Ty Simpson. The Steelers have to figure out Ty … and now certainly Arizona does, if they want to try to trade back in and get him, the Browns don’t have to worry about Ty Simpson … they got a better quarterback than Ty Simpson in Shedeur Sanders, don’t go there.”
As someone who has just put his foot in the door, Simpson has proved his potential and has a long way to go, but he should be ready for pushback, as it is not easy to compete with the players who have experience compared to a rookie.
