The Denver Nuggets have one of the top duos in the NBA.

Over time, the Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray combination has racked up hundreds of wins. After taking down the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, March 25, they secured win No. 400.

After the game, Jokic reflected on the journey playing alongside Murray.

“I think it’s the growth and how we both started, and just the path that we had,” Jokic told reporters.

“From basically nobody to somebody and to championship. And we’re still growing and still performing. The growth that we had together, it’s something that is really unique. Hopefully, we can continue to play like this.”

Jokic arrived in Denver not long before Murray.

During the 2014 NBA Draft, Jokic was taken in the second round as the 41st overall pick. He came from playing overseas ball.

Despite being a second-rounder who wasn’t from a major NCAA program, Jokic quickly earned a starting role on the Nuggets. As he improved each year early on, the Nuggets were willing to bet on his chances of being a face of the franchise.

Murray landed with the Nuggets in a different fashion. Coming out of the University of Kentucky, Murray was developing in one of basketball’s top programs, which helped him become a top 10 pick. He was selected seventh overall in 2016.

He was a rotational player right away, coming off the bench for 21.5 minutes per game. By year two, Murray was a full-time starter.

The Nuggets started making the playoffs in 2018. From that point on, they’ve developed into championship contenders with some hardware to show for it.

During the 2023 NBA Playoffs, the Nuggets famously won the NBA Finals. Jokic was the NBA Finals MVP, after he averaged 30.0 points per game, along with 13.5 rebounds, and 9.5 assists throughout the postseason.

Murray posted averages of 26.1 points, 7.1 assists, and 5.7 rebounds during the championship run.

Wednesday night was a good time for reflection.

But the job isn’t finished. The 400-win mark is impressive, but Jokic and Murray want more titles to add to their legacies.

Heading into their Friday, March 27, game against the Utah Jazz, the Nuggets are fourth in the Western Conference with a 46-28 record.

Currently on a four-game winning streak, the Nuggets are creeping up on the third-seeded Los Angeles Lakers, who have a 1.5-game lead over Denver. Meanwhile, the Nuggets lead the Minnesota Timberwolves by 0.5 games.

No matter where the Nuggets finish, the expectations will be the same. In their eyes, it’s championship or bust.
