Jaylen Brown #7 of the Boston Celtics is ejected after arguing a call against the San Antonio Spurs in the second period at Frost Bank Center on March 10, 2026 in San Antonio, Texas.

The Boston Celtics will play the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night, March 27.

In the lead-up to the game, the Celtics announced their starting lineup, which comes as key news due to the multiple injuries the team is facing against the red-hot Hawks.

The Celtics have won seven of their last ten, but come into the game against an Atlanta team that has won 14 of its last 15 games.

According to both official league records, and a recent announcement by the team, the Celtics’ starting lineup was revealed for Friday night.

Jayson Tatum, Derrick White, Neemias Queta, Sam Hauser, and Baylor Scheierman will start for Boston in the game against Atlanta.

While all five players have been key for head coach Joe Mazzulla and Boston this season, this specific lineup is a bit unique due to the multiple injuries the Celtics are facing, most notable of whom is Jaylen Brown, who was ruled out earlier in the day.

As mentioned, Brown was ruled out on Friday due to left Achilles tendinitis.

Any time the word ‘Achilles,’ ‘injury’, and a Celtics player is mentioned in the same sentence is reasonable cause for concern for fans, considering Tatum’s Achilles injury suffered last May.

However, as for Brown, the full extent of his injury is still unknown. He was previously listed as questionable, before then being ruled out against Atlanta.

Underdog NBA

Jaylen Brown (Achilles) ruled out Friday.

He has missed time earlier in the season with knee, hamstring, and quad injuries, along with an illness, but any potential Achilles injury does not bode well for the team’s playoff hopes.

The Celtics will also be without and trade deadline acquisition Nikola Vucevic. The center had surgery for a finger injury he underwent in early March. Vucevic is expected to be back in time for the postseason, but for now, he remains out.

Both Brown and Vucevic are the only two Boston players on the team’s injury report for Friday night against Atlanta.

Both Queta and White were previously questionable, but they’ve since been upgraded and are available to play.

Additionally, no Tatum on the Celtics injury report is also a good sign for the team. He’s played in nine games since coming back from his Achilles injury. Despite still showing signs of rust after being out for ten months, the franchise star has been strong for Boston in his return back so far.

“Tatum has scored in double figures in all eight games he has played — he reached at least 20 points in five of them — with four double-doubles,” Tim Bontemps previously worte for ESPN. “But those numbers cover up the understandable growing pains of Boston easing back its superstar in the middle of a playoff push.”

In those nine games, Tatum is averaging 19.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 39.1% shooting. Still room for improvement, but all that matters for the Celtics is that he’s on the court and healthy.
