The WNBA franchise will subsequently be relocated and undergo a full rebranding as the Houston Comets. The team will play for one final season in Connecticut this year before moving to 2027.

The Mohegan Tribe took ownership of the Sun in 2003, acquiring the Orlando Miracle and transferring the franchise from Florida to Uncasville.

The revival of the Comets is undoubtedly huge for the entire city of Houston. It served as one of the WNBA's first teams and became a dynasty in women's basketball after winning four consecutive championships from 1997 to 2000.

But in 2008, the Comets folded due to financial instability and a failure to find new ownership.

The $300 million purchase of the Fertitta family now stands as the record-breaking sale of any WNBA franchise.
