Most would agree the moves the Buffalo Bills have made this offseason have better equipped quarterback Josh Allen and company to compete for a Super Bowl championship in 2026.

The team shored up the defense by adding star pass-rusher Bradley Chubb to a three-year, $43.5 million deal, cornerback Dee Alford to a three-year, $15.75 million deal, and safeties C.J. Gardner Johnson (one year, $3.5 million) and Geno Stone (one year, $1.4 million).

Buffalo also made some moves on offense as well, re-signing tight end Dawson Knox and center Connor McGovern, as well as trading for former 1,000-yard wide receiver DJ Moore.

While the Bills’ roster looks much better now than it did last season, The Athletic’s Saad Yousuf believes there’s one more player they could add to set them over the top.

Bills Named Best Fit for Free Agent Jauan Jennings

Buffalo’s wide receiver corps was an Achilles heel for the team last season.

But adding Moore to a group that includes Khalil Shakir (72 catches, 719 yards, 4 touchdowns), Keon Coleman (38 catches, 404 yards, 4 TDs), and Joshua Palmer (22 receptions, 303 yards) provides a much rosier 2026 outlook for Allen.

Buffalo certainly doesn’t need to make another move at receiver, but Yousuf believes if it wanted to, the team is the best fit for free-agent wideout Jauan Jennings.

“Trading for D.J. Moore gives the Bills an upgrade at wide receiver,” Yousuf wrote. “Considering what the situation was like before the trade, it’s not really saying much. Moore will certainly help Josh Allen, but the front office’s job is not complete.

“Jennings is another reliable target who has played well in his first five NFL seasons in San Francisco. Neither he nor Moore is expected to be a legit No. 1 type of receiver, but having two players at that level could help bring the best out of each of them.”

Adding Jennings, who’s just one year removed from a 77-catch, 975-yard, 6-TD season, is the kind of move that would give Allen arguably the deepest WR room he’s had during his time in Buffalo.

Why Hasn’t Jennings Signed Somewhere Yet?

Jennings led the 49ers in touchdowns last season (9), and he ranked second on the team in targets (90) and receiving yards (643), and third in receptions (55).

Though he wasn’t considered to be in the top tier of free-agent WRs this summer — a group that included Mike Evans, Alec Pierce, Romeo Doubs, and Wan’Dale Robinson — Jennings fit into that second tier of wideouts.

But with 32 WRs inking new deals, why hasn’t Jennings signed anywhere yet? ESPN 49ers reporter Nick Wagoner believes it has something to do with his unrealistically high contract demands.

“My suspicion would be that he probably was expecting to cash in something closer to what, you know, Romeo Doubs got in New England,” Wagoner recently said. “And if his expectations were above that — and this is hypothetical, I don’t know this for a fact — but if his expectations were above that, we’re now at a point in free agency where you’re just not seeing those kind of contracts given out.

“Not that the money has completely dried up, but you’re just not seeing it… Maybe he ends up signing a one-year deal that is worth $14 million, $15 million and gives him some incentives that could take him up to something like that, and then he tries it again next year.”
