The Pittsburgh Steelers have made some exciting and much-needed moves during NFL free agency so far. However, one recent prediction has them signing veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

The Steelers made one of the bigger moves in free agency via a trade with the Indianapolis Colts for wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. Pittsburgh desperately needed to improve its receiver room with another reliable option to go alongside DK Metcalf, who was traded over from the Seattle Seahawks last year.

Having both Metcalf and Pittman is a major upgrade, but making further additions could still be on the table. The question is, would signing Beckham be a worthwhile move?

Odell Beckham Jr. Floated as Potential Steelers Fit

It was CBS Sports’ John Breech who presented the idea that the Steelers could be a landing spot for Beckham as he looks to return to the NFL.

Specifically, Breech pointed to Beckham’s past connection to Pittsburgh, including conversations with Aaron Rodgers about potentially playing for the Steelers.

There’s also the fact Beckham once believed he would begin his career there.

“I was actually supposed to be drafted to the Steelers,” Beckham said. “That was the meeting that I had that I was like, ‘I think I’m going to the Steelers.’ And the Giants ended up taking me at No. 12.”

Breech added that while Beckham could bring value, it would have to come in a specific role.

“Due to Beckham’s age, being a No. 3 receiver probably makes the most sense and that’s exactly what he would be in Pittsburgh. The Steelers already have DK Metcalf and they just pulled off a trade for Michael Pittman, so this is a situation where opposing defenses would be worrying about those two guys, which could potentially open the door for Beckham to have a solid season if he were to sign with the Steelers.”

That type of role could make sense. With defenses focused on Metcalf and Pittman, Beckham wouldn’t need to carry the offense — just complement it.

Odell Beckham Jr. Seeking NFL Return After Time Away

Beckham, now 33, hasn’t played a full season since 2024, when he appeared in just nine games and recorded nine catches for 55 yards with the Miami Dolphins before being released on December 13.

Since then, he’s been working his way back.

During the recent Fanatics Flag Football Classic, Beckham flashed some of the playmaking ability that made him one of the league’s most dynamic receivers earlier in his career. He also made it clear he’s not done yet.

“Looking forward to hopefully getting an opportunity to play this year and this is kind of just the starting point,” Beckham said in an interview with Kay Adams.

Of course, there’s a big difference between a flag football showcase and enduring a full 17-game NFL season — especially after time away from the league.

Still, Beckham wouldn’t cost much, and that’s where the intrigue lies.

For a team like the Steelers, adding a veteran presence on a low-risk deal could make sense, particularly if they’re still looking to round out the receiver room.

Whether that turns into anything more than speculation remains to be seen, but Beckham appears determined to get another shot — and Pittsburgh could be one of the teams worth watching.
