Luka Doncic drops blunt take about lack of NBA MVP favor

The Lakers superstar has witnessed his name outside the Top 3 latest MVP rankings for the 2025-26 NBA season.

Luka Doncic has taken himself to a new level for the Los Angeles Lakers and the entire NBA.

By dropping 41 points to lead the Lakers' 119-109 Friday home win over the Brooklyn Nets, the superstar delivered another major feat by recording his league-leading 15th 40-point game of the season.

Right now, while averaging an NBA-high 33.6 points with 8.3 assists and 7.8 rebounds, Doncic has carried Los Angeles to the third seed of the Western Conference standings with a 48-26 record.

But despite his individual brilliance and leadership on the Lakers' major season, Doncic still hasn't gained any significant favor for the NBA MVP honors. In the postgame of his team's Friday victory over the Nets, the Slovenian star kept it straightforward about potentially winning it amid his recent drop in the awards race.

“Yeah hopefully, but the better I play, the more I go down in ratings," Doncic said in Spanish, "So I don’t know what more I can do.”

As such, Doncic finds himself outside the Top 3, despite his ongoing historic stretch that pulled the Lakers to legitimate contention.

In the wake of his superb brilliance, Doncic can only truly wonder about his place amongst the NBA's best this year.
