He's agreed a deal to join: The next Kobbie Mainoo is on his way to Man Utd this summer -…

After spending upwards of £200m on new additions last summer, the upcoming window could bring about further changes on and off the pitch for Manchester United.

Michael Carrick, who’s currently the club’s temporary manager, could be handed the job on a permanent basis, but other targets are still being drawn up by the hierarchy.

On the pitch, the midfield department is an area that’s set to be overhauled - especially after Brazilian international Casemiro announced he would be departing the Red Devils.

Club captain Bruno Fernandes is another player whose future could come under question, especially considering the 31-year-old will have just one year left on his deal at Old Trafford.

Even though the window is a couple of months away from opening, the hierarchy have already started contingency plans to bolster such an area of the pitch ahead of 2026/27.

Man Utd’s hunt to bolster the midfield department this summer

Whilst it’s unclear how much the United hierarchy will spend on improving the midfield department, they have set their sights high, with numerous high-profile names currently on their wish list.

Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson has been continuously mentioned as a possible option, with Manchester City also interested in a move for the England international.

However, the Reds’ £100m price tag for the 23-year-old has certainly put such a move on hold, leading to other options being considered in recent weeks.

Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes is another player who’s admired by staff at Old Trafford, leading to huge interest in a deal to land the Brazilian.

Like Anderson, he could cost a pretty penny, which has seen attention switch to a potential deal to land his Magpies' teammate Sandro Tonali instead this summer.

The Italian has been hugely touted with a move away from Tyneside, leading to reports that a bid will be lodged for the 25-year-old when the window opens.

The next Mainoo has already agreed to join Man Utd

Should the club fail to land any big-money transfers during the upcoming transfer window, they could rly upon promoting young talent to the senior team - just as they did with Kobbie Mainoo.

The 20-year-old became a first-team regular at the tender age of just 18 during the 2023/24 campaign and immediately caught the eye of fans at Old Trafford.

He netted numerous key goals during his first season as a first-team member, but none were as important as his effort against Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Under Carrick’s guidance, he’s started every game since the temporary boss was appointed, arguably being one of the Red Devils’ most consistent performers in recent weeks.

However, despite his performances and the ongoing transfer hunt, the hierarchy have already secured the club’s next version of the star in the form of Colombian star Cristian Orozco.

United agreed a £750k fee with Fortaleza for the 17-year-old back in the January window, with the teenage star set to move to Manchester in the summer.

He may have made just two senior appearances for his current side, but the Red Devils hierarchy have taken note of the midfielder’s form internationally - including last summer’s U17 World Cup.

Orozco has emulated Mainoo in impressing for his country at a young age, with his showing against El Salvador highlighting glimpses of a similarity to the English star.

He featured for all 90 minutes of the contest, often conducting the play at the base of the midfield - as seen by his tally of 107 touches of the ball and 63 passes completed.

However, without the ball, the teenager was just as impactful, subsequently winning nine duels and nine ball recoveries - numbers which could make him the perfect partner for Mainoo.

His performances for Colombia have earned him huge praise over the last couple of months, with analyst Ben Mattinson stating he’s “press resistant with tidy, skilful footwork."

The £750k fee paid for Orozco certainly appears to be excellent business by the hierarchy, with the youngster a player who could have a huge future at Old Trafford.

Hopefully, just as Mainoo has proven in recent years, he could be the next exciting young prospect to break into the senior ranks and become a hit with the fans in Manchester.
