Palmer missed virtually the entire first half of the season with a groin injury and made his long awaited returned to action in December.

The England international has shown glimpses, such as the hat-trick against Wolves, but has largely struggled, with Liam Rosenior unable to find a way to get the best out of him.

Emmanuel Petit unsure what’s happening with Cole Palmer

Palmer has scored ten goals and registered three assists in 25 appearances in all competitions, but clearly isn’t anywhere near his best.

He’s cut a frustrated figure in recent weeks, and appeared to lose his cool with Pedro Neto during the 3-0 defeat to Everton last weekend.

Palmer is deemed untouchable at Chelsea, despite links to Manchester United, with the 23-year-old under contract until 2033.

The Blues sit sixth with seven games remaining and need Palmer to rediscover his form if they are to qualify for the Champions League, and Petit has admitted he’s unsure what’s happening with the attacker.

“I don’t know what’s happening with Palmer,” he said as quoted on X.com.

“You can argue that he’s tired after a big season last season, but look at Paris Saint-Germain.

“They play the same amount of games, and they don’t play the same way, they don’t enjoy their football the same way.”

Enzo Fernandez future unclear

Whilst Palmer is seemingly untouchable at Chelsea, it appears the same can’t be said for team-mate Enzo Fernandez.

Fernandez cast his future into doubt after the PSG game, and has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

It would likely take a huge offer to convince Chelsea to sell, and it’ll be a very interesting situation to monitor throughout the summer.
