Tottenham wonderkid is now wanted by a club across the capital.
There could be a major bidding war for Luka Vuskovic, with a whole host of clubs circling the Tottenham Hotspur youngster.
Luka Vuskovic’s development on loan at HSV Hamburg has left the Tottenham officials impressed, with the teenager demonstrating just why he is so highly regarded as one of the most exciting defensive talents around. The big Croat has been one of the first names on HSV Hamburg’s teamsheet, racking up 24 appearances in the Bundesliga. He once again demonstrated his goal-scoring prowess during Croatia’s 2-1 friendly win against Colombia earlier this week, adding to his tally of five goals in the Bundesliga season.
The centre-back’s breakthrough this season has certainly not gone unnoticed by the European giants. Over recent days, it has emerged that Liverpool are keen on signing Luka Vuskovic, who is Tottenham’s second-most valuable player with a market value of €60m. In Europe, Bayern Munich and Barcelona have been keeping tabs on the Spurs talent’s progress in the Bundesliga, and they’ve now been joined by a Premier League club.
Chelsea enter transfer race for Luka Vuskovic
According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Chelsea have expressed an interest in signing Vuskovic.
“It’s true that Chelsea are interested. They’ve done their homework on him and he’s high up on their list as they look for a new centre-back,” one well-connected source told CaughtOffside.
Despite not playing a single minute for Tottenham so far, Vuskovic is already high on the agenda of several clubs. The 19-year-old has mightily impressed with his decision-making, reading of the game, technical security, aerial prowess and goalscoring ability in a Hamburg shirt. The defender, who is contracted to White Hart Lane until 2030, is part of the club’s long-term plans, but their league position has left them in danger of losing their highly-regarded prospect.
Chelsea, known for investing heavily in young talents across the world, are planning to take advantage of Tottenham’s perilous situation and lure Vuskovic away to Stamford Bridge. While Spurs may look in control of Vuskovic’s future as he has a long-term contract, it would come down to the player’s willingness to stay in N17 if the club gets relegated. However, should the Lilywhites preserve their Premier League status, they will be in a strong position to retain the youngster.
Vuskovic will have plenty of top options to choose from this summer if he pushes to leave Tottenham without even playing a single game. And Chelsea have now thrown their hat in the ring, hoping to continue their youth-centric approach of building the squad.
It will be interesting to see what the Hotspur Way officials can do to ensure Vuskovic stays at the club after he returns from his loan spell at Hamburg in the summer.
