Harry Maguire was left stunned that Ronald Araujo dodged a red card following his controversial tackle on Phil Foden during England's draw with Uruguay.
Foden, who has been on the periphery of the Manchester City team recently, played for the Three Lions at Wembley but was on the receiving end of a nasty challenge from the Barcelona defender. Araujo initially won the ball, but followed through aggressively and made contact on Foden's ankle.
The England ace immediately hit the deck in pain, with boss Thomas Tuchel fuming on the touchline. Araujo managed to stay on the pitch despite heavy protests from the home side.
Maguire admitted that those types of tackles are always worthy of a red card and the referee letting it go without firmer punishment was ultimately tough to take.
He told ITV: "You don't see tackles like that and not get red cards. A couple of months from the World Cup and we've got referees allowing tackles like that... It's disappointing. We have to move on and manage the game better and come away with the victory. It was a good work out there, many positives and things to work on as well."
Foden, clearly in pain, had to be replaced by Cole Palmer minutes later. Tuchel appeared to make his feelings clear to the fourth official after seeing the tackle. It wasn't the only controversial decision made by the officials on Friday night as Uruguay scored a late penalty to rescue a draw.
Ben White, who had put the hosts ahead, was penalised by VAR in stoppage time. His challenge on Federico Vinas caught the attention of VAR and, after a quick check on the monitor, a penalty was given as Real Madrid ace Federico Valverde hammered home from 12 yards.

It left White with a mixed night following his return to the England fold following several years away under the previous regime. The Arsenal defender's strike didn't prove to be the winner - but Maguire felt the penalty that was given against him was extremely soft.
He said on his team-mate: "A bit crazy, scoring the first goal. I thought he was brilliant when he came on. I can't say anything about the defending for that one [the penalty] - if that was me in that position I'd be attempting to block the shot as well. That's what we've got to do. That's a real soft penalty."
