"I've heard..." - Insider: Crystal Palace eyeing move to appoint 'genius' if he's sacked to…

Crystal Palace are keeping a close eye on the situation of Liam Rosenior at Chelsea as they look for a new manager, according to industry insider Mick Brown.

The Eagles are on the hunt for the perfect candidate to replace Oliver Glasner, who will leave Selhurst Park when his contract expires at the end of the season, departing as the club's most successful ever manager, having won the FA Cup and Community Shield during his two-and-a-half years in charge.

Palace are yet to commit to a candidate, despite knowing that the Austrian will be departing, with Thomas Frank and Andoni Iraola understood to be being considered. But it has now emerged that Rosenior has also returned to their shortlist amid his situation at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior looks on during the loss to Everton

Rosenior, who has been described as 'tactical genius', has come under immense pressure at Chelsea since taking over from Enzo Maresca back in January, with the team sitting in sixth-place in the Premier League, six points off the Champions League places, while they were also humiliated by PSG in the Last 16 of the competition, losing 8-2 on aggregate.

Fans are said to be unhappy with his style of management and his press conferences, with many labelling him as underqualified to be in charge of such an ambitious club.

The club have publicly backed the 41-year-old, claiming they want to give him at least one full season before making any changes, but Crystal Palace are understood to be alert to the possibility of his availability should they change their mind.

Speaking to Football Insider, Brown revealed that Palace would be keen to bring him in if he was sacked by Chelsea, and they are keeping an eye on the situation.

“Obviously it seems like Liam Rosenior is under a bit of pressure,” Brown said**.**

“If he was to be sacked by Chelsea, he’s somebody Crystal Palace will be looking at, because they’ve been long-term admirers since before he came to Chelsea.

“The people I speak to at Hull City speak very, very highly of him, the way they played under him, the organisation, the way he interacted with his players. Everything about him as a manager, I’ve heard nothing but praise about until he’s gone to Chelsea and results maybe haven’t been as they’d have hoped.

“So from a Crystal Palace perspective, those are good signs, because he was highly rated in France as well and there are people at Palace who like him.

“If he was to leave Chelsea, they’d be alerted to that, and he’s somebody I’m sure they would be looking at as an option to replace Glasner. It’s certainly something Palace will be keeping an eye on.”

Rosenior a Long-Term Palace Target

Liam Rosenior

GIVEMESPORT sources reported back in December that Rosenior was someone liked at Palace as they began their search for a Glasner replacement.

His performance at Chelsea may have potentially led to a rethink, and GIVEMESPORT asked ChatGPT if he would be a good replacement for Glasner, to which it responded with:

Liam Rosenior: Possession-based, build-from-back coach; could suit Palace’s technical players but riskier defensively.

Oliver Glasner: Established 3-4-2-1, high-press, transition-heavy system already embedded.

Rosenior offers stylistic continuity (back-three, pressing) but less proven at Premier League level.

Overall: moderately good fit, but a slight tactical downgrade and higher risk.
