Man Utd have now identified a problem they might have with Luke Shaw next season

Manchester United are weighing up its options ahead of the summer transfer window. One player who could face increased competition for a place in the team is Luke Shaw.

The summer is near. Manchester United have just seven games remaining in the Premier League.

Michael Carrick continues to make a case to remain head coach beyond this season, but the 44-year-old is focused on securing Champions League football.

Being in Europe’s most prestigious tournament would help United sign their top targets in the summer. It could also help boost invest in new players.

Man Utd have doubts over Luke Shaw

Shaw has been a mainstay in the team throughout the season, with United benefiting from the fact he has sustained no serious injury setbacks like in previous campaigns.

The 30-year-old spent the first half of the season playing in a back three, with Ruben Amorim unwilling to utilise him as a wing-back.

However, a change to the system and role under Carrick has seen Shaw return to left back, where his performances have continued to impress.

There is no doubt that Shaw has benefited from United playing fewer games this season, but that will change next season, with United set to qualify for Europe.

That explains why United are being linked with left-backs ahead of the transfer window. On TalkSPORT, Alex Cook explains why the Red Devils have doubts about Shaw physically and his ability to cope with the extra workload of Champions League football next season.

Cook also names Myles Lewis-Skelly as a United target, with the club eager to scan the market for the best affordable option available.

“Myles Lewis-Skelly is one of the options that United I’m told would look at in terms of bringing a new left back in the summer,” Cook said.

“I think they have doubts about Luke Shaw physically and his ability to play Champions League football which they hope to be securing in the coming weeks.”

Myles Lewis-Skelly could follow Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi’s path

Ineos have had little problem convincing Arsenal players to join United since taking control of football operations in 2024, as seen with Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi.

Lewis-Skelly is the latest Arsenal player linked with a move to Old Trafford.

He was a regular for Arsenal just a few months ago, but he is now lacking game time, but that doesn’t mean he is pushing for an exit.

United just may be able to present a better offer to the player ahead of next season.
