The Golden State Warriors pulled off a major deal ahead of the 2025-26 NBA trade deadline. In the move that sent Jonathan Kuminga to the Atlanta Hawks, the Warriors were about to acquire star big man Kristaps Porzingis.

Porzingis, whose deal will expire following the 2025-26 season, has been viewed as a potential candidate to re-sign with Golden State.

Over the last few years, the Warriors have had a clear need for an upgrade at the center position. Al Horford was signed in free agency in the hope of being that upgrade. However, he is now 39 years old and is beginning to decline from a production standpoint.

Bringing Porzingis back for the next couple of years would be a wise decision. Golden State will face competition to work out a new deal with him if he reaches free agency, but it’s an option the team should strongly consider.

With that being said, a new update has been shared about Porzingis’ potential future with the Warriors.

Warriors Receive Update on Kristaps Porzingis’ NBA Future

According to a report from Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area, Porzingis is “enamored” with Golden State and would strongly consider re-signing with the team in free agency.

That is good news for a team who could badly use him returning.

Since joining the Warriors, Porzingis has played in 10 games and made six starts. He has averaged 17.1 points per game to go along with 4.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.4 blocks, while shooting 43.4 percent from the floor and 31.5 percent from three-point distance.

Having those numbers at the center position with a healthy Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler could make Golden State a top-tier NBA Finals contender next season.

Golden State Still Has Reason for Optimism Despite a Disappointing Season

No one can argue that this season has been anything but a disappointment for the Warriors. After starting the year as an NBA Finals hopeful, the team holds a 36-38 record right now.

Despite not living up to the expectations this year, the immediate future is bright.

If the Warriors can re-sign Porzingis and return a healthy Curry and Butler next season, the sky is the limit. Golden State would have more than enough talent to compete in the Western Conference.

Only time will tell whether or not the star center decides to re-sign with the Warriors. As of right now, it sounds like there’s a solid chance of that being the outcome of the situation.
