Liverpool and Man United are both prepared to go head-to-head for a Real Madrid star and offer him a handsome wage package, according to reports.

Liverpool make transfer plans after Mohamed Salah exit confirmed

It is set to be a defining summer for the Reds.

Manager Arne Slot is under immense pressure after what has been a lacklustre campaign by Liverpool's almighty standards, following a failed Premier League title defence.

Reports suggest that ex-Real boss Xabi Alonso is in pole position for the Liverpool job if Slot is handed his P45 by FSG, with some claims that a move is already advancing.

Meanwhile, Anfield legend Mohamed Salah has confirmed this season will be his last on Merseyside — putting an end to his historic nine-year stay on Merseyside.

Liverpool hold talks with £160m Mohamed Salah replacement's camp and get transfer reply

The Egyptian King will needs an heir.

The search for Salah's heir is already heating up ahead of the summer window.

PSG's Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue and Bradley Barcola have already been tipped as targets to succeed the Egyptian King, with Bayern Munich's Michael Olise also firmly on Liverpool's radar.

Signing a replacement for Salah isn't Liverpool's only transfer goal for later this year either.

Liverpool and Man United prepared to offer Aurelien Tchouameni contract

According to Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Liverpool are among the clubs willing to offer Aurélien Tchouameni a salary package of around £192,000 per week — as they look to prize the 26-year-old France international away from Real.

Man United are understood to be offering the same figure, with the two English giants locking horns over the midfielder.

It is easy to understand why both clubs are looking in Tchouameni's direction.

Since arriving at the Bernabeu from Monaco in 2022 for around £85m, the midfielder has developed into one of the most reliable holding players in European football.

Successive Real Madrid managers — Carlo Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso and now Raúl Arbeloa — have all named him as a regular starter, a consistency that speaks volumes.

His importance to the side is perhaps most obvious when you consider who he plays in front of — Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr, three of the most attack-minded players in world football.

Without Tchouameni's balance and defensive application behind them, the system would be significantly more fragile.

The problem for Liverpool and United, however, is that the salary offer appears entirely irrelevant to the player's thinking.

Defensa Central also reports that Tchouameni has no intention of leaving Madrid. He remains under contract until 2028 and the club are already working on an extension, conscious that allowing him to enter the final year of his deal in 2027 would be unwise given his importance.

Crucially, the player himself is not motivated by squeezing every available euro from the market.

He apparently understands his role at the club, is comfortable within their wage structure, and values what Madrid represent — both in terms of prestige and sporting ambition — above what any Premier League club can put in front of him.
