The future of De’Von Achane with the Miami Dolphins appears to be clear, as the front office is counting on him for the 2026 NFL season. Despite the offseason purge by the new Dolphins general manager, Jon-Eric Sullivan, it doesn’t seem Achane will be departing.

On March 18,ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported, citing sources, that Teams that have recently called the Dolphins to inquire about trading for Achane havebeen told that the star running back is not available.

Last season, Achane had a breakout year on the ground, rushing for a career-best 1,350 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging an impressive 5.7 yards per carry, the highest in the league. He also played a key role in Miami’s passing attack, catching 67 passes for 488 yards and adding four more touchdowns.

Amid the speculation, NBC NFL insider Mike Florio shared an update on the situation and gave his honest thoughts on the Dolphins, saying that Achane isn’t available.

“I think when the team says he’s not available, what they mean is they’re not going to trade him for any of the offers they’ve received,” Florio said during aMarch 27 appearance on 104.3 WQAM.

“This is the time of year when offers circulate for many players who ultimately aren’t traded. General managers talk constantly, so they’ve surely seen offers for De’Von Achane, but none have been strong enough. Based on what they’ve received so far, they’re not making a move.”

Dolphins Trading De’Von Achane Would Be Complicated

Nonetheless, while Achane’s name is in the trade speculation mill, Florio does mention that a move is complicated by the financial situation that would come if a team does make a move for the Dolphins star.

“The team has since guaranteed most of his salary for this year and already paid a large portion as a signing bonus to create cap space,” Florio added.

“That makes a trade more complicated because any team acquiring him now would only take on his minimum salary on the books, but would not assume the money Miami has already paid. In the end, the player holds the leverage.”

Would De’Von Achane Force His Way Out of Miami?

Moreover, Florio believes that Achane could stand firm in his desire for a new contract, given that at the moment, he is the only player defenses can zero in on, leading to more wear and tear on his body. As a result, his long-term value could take a hit on whether the Dolphins or any other team wants to give him a lucrative contract.

“If you’re De’Von Achane, if you’re the last great player standing, and hey, Malik Willis may end up being great, but of the team that was there last year, all the best players are gone now except for De’Von Achane,” Florio said.

“At some point, Achane could say, ‘No. 1, I want my contract. No. 2, I want to go somewhere else. Let’s not play this game of me being the only blue‑dot player on the entire team this year, being the focal point of every defense, getting banged up, getting beat up, and having my value long‑term diminished by all the wear and tear.’“
