Man United have seen surprise transfer links with a free-scoring La Liga forward emerge

Manchester United have been linked with a top Barcelona star as the Red Devils continue to make preparations for what looks set to be a busy summer transfer window.

Michael Carrick’s side are in pole position to seal a top four place and a return to the Champions League next term, with their lack of European commitments giving the Red Devils the opportunity to focus on their league form – and to good effect, with seven league wins secured in ten matches under Carrick prior to the international break.

Multiple summer transfer targets have already been identified ahead of what could be another expensive window for the club, with midfield thought to be a position of priority and the likes of Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali a top target. Meanwhile, surprise links have emerged with a top La Liga star according to recent reports.

Man Utd ‘offered’ Ferran Torres and could complete two Barcelona deals

As per reports by TEAMtalk, Man United have been ‘offered’ the chance to sign Barcelona forward Ferran Torres ‘on a plate’ as the Catalan giants consider how to get around their continued financial issues this summer.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed a highly productive season for Barca, registering 16 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions, despite often finding himself in and out of the side. The La Liga outfit are now reportedly prepared to sanction a summer exit for the forward and have ‘offered him’ to both United and Atletico Madrid as part of exchange deals involving forward stars of their own.

In United’s case, of course, such a deal would involve Marcus Rashford, whom Barcelona are keen to sign once again this summer despite issues paying up his £26million permanent buy option straight away. They are thought to prefer another loan deal so to delay the eventual payment and could allow Torres to exit in the opposite direction so to sweeten their chances of a resolution concerning Rashford. Meanwhile, La Blaugrana are pursuing Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez and are also considering including Torres in a part-exchange for the Argentine striker, who could cost the best part of £100m.

Torres was formerly on the books at Manchester City for two years, scoring 16 goals in 43 appearances before returning to his homeland of Spain in a deal worth up to £55m in 2022. He has previously ‘resisted’ the opportunity to return to the Premier League, but his future is now uncertain with his contract up in 2027 and negotiations over a new deal ‘not close’. Arsenal are also keeping tabs on the player’s situation.

United could take the opportunity to swoop for the forward this summer, using their strong negotiating position to their advantage as Barcelona look to seal a favourable deal for Rashford. The Red Devils are thought to be looking for a versatile forward capable of playing across the front-line – particularly if Joshua Zirkzee joins Rasmus Hojlund and Rashford in completing a permanent exit from the club – and may feel that Torres fits this profile perfectly.
