Chelsea chase West Ham’s centre back target – which is remarkably good news

Several clubs have all been ‘linked’ with huge centre back Roggerio Nyakossi, according to reports this weekend. The OH Leuven centre-back, 22, is approaching the final year of his contract and looking for a Premier League move this summer, according to ‘The Sun’.

Reported widely as being of interest to West Ham, Everton, Fulham and Crystal Palace – the good news is that Chelsea appear top of the heap as far as vying for the Switzerland u21 skipper. It certainly fits the Blues’ profile for recruitment and if they decide to ‘swoop’ – West Ham will be left out in the cold.

Remarkable really, just a year ago Portsmouth failed with a £1.5 million bid for the centre back: Apparently it’ll be nearer £15 million just 12 months later.

Facing facts though, even if West Ham’s Premier League future is secured, the Hammers can’t hope to compete with their West London rivals for the cream of Europe’s young talent .

According to the sun.co.uk:

“Chelsea and Liverpool have been making checks on Nyakossi and plan to closely track his situation between now and the summer transfer window.

A host of other Premier League clubs are monitoring the 6ft 4in giant including Everton, West Ham, Fulham and Crystal Palace.”

However: There’s a definite upside.

Disasi – could have a long term future at West Ham

The more Chelsea plan for a future without Axel Disasi in their ranks, frankly, the better.

Bringing in a highly sought after young centre back means Disasi is, more than ever, likely to be headlining the ‘unwanted’ list ready for a summer departure. There had been fears that the Hammers would struggle to tempt Chelsea to part with him after his rediscovery of form this Spring.

Doesn’t sound like the Frenchman is figuring in their plans. Which is remarkably good news for West Ham United’s outlook to sign him permanently if he helps the Hammers keep their Premier League status.
