Man United are expected to target midfield reinforcements this summer transfer window

Manchester United are targeting a midfield rebuild this summer and have seen speculation arise concerning multiple big-money transfer targets in recent weeks.

With much of Michael Carrick’s squad currently away on international duty, work behind the scenes is continuing to be done to get ahead in their transfer business before the market opens this summer. Premier League-proven midfielders appear to be the priority, with the likes of Sandro Tonali, Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and James Garner all linked with moves to Old Trafford.

If the Red Devils complete their goal of finishing in the Champions League places, they will have a stronger negotiating position in attracting some of the biggest names on the continent – which could include a Real Madrid duo, according to a recent report.

Man Utd target stunning £104m Real Madrid double deal - report

Defensa Central in Spain report that Man United are set to offer €120million (£104m) to Real Madrid this summer for the signatures of two Los Blancos stars – Eduardo Camavinga and Nico Paz.

While the latter in Paz is not currently a Real Madrid player and plies his trade for Cesc Fabregas’ Como in Serie A, Los Blancos retain 50% of the rights of the 21-year-old Argentine and possess a €9m buy-back clause, which they have long been expected to trigger this summer. This move will only fail if the player himself declines a return to Madrid. This may not prevent potential suitors in England, such as United, from coming in with a lucrative offer once Paz is announced as a Real Madrid player once again.

This could be as part of a huge double swoop alongside Camavinga, who has struggled for game-time this season and has been linked with a move to several Premier League clubs – including United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool – as a result. The 23-year-old is being considered as an option as the Red Devils look to revamp their midfield with multiple top-quality players this summer.

Could United complete shock Real Madrid deal?

The report by Defensa Central states that such rumours of an £104m double swoop by United is just speculation at this stage, but it clearly represents the ambition which may be shown in the transfer market at Old Trafford this summer. Reporting continues that Madrid have no intention of letting Paz go straight after his arrival this summer as things stand, while Camavinga’s situation is more ‘up in the air’ and will require a resolution. Should the record 15-time European champions receive big money for the pair, they could use it to fund a marquee move for Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, as per the report.

United will reportedly monitor the situation involving the two players. Camavinga could arrive as a versatile option capable of playing at both No.8 and No.6, in addition to previously filling in at left-back, while attacking midfielder Paz could become the club’s long-term successor to Bruno Fernandes if he was to arrive at Old Trafford.
