Thomas Tuchel claims Chelsea star is more mobile for England teammate

Thomas Tuchel has been discussing England’s centre-back options ahead of the World Cup, which include Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah and Manchester United’s Harry Maguire.

Chalobah is not part of England’s squad for this round of international fixtures because of an ankle injury, but Maguire is.

However, if it becomes a choice between the two this summer, it looks as though Tuchel will go for the Chelsea star.

Thomas Tuchel thinks Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah is more mobile than Harry Maguire

Tuchel knows Chalobah very well after working with the defender at Chelsea and views him as a more mobile option than Maguire.

Speaking after England’s 1-1 draw with Uruguay on Friday via The Standard, Tuchel said: “I see Trevoh Chalobah, on the level of mobility, as slightly ahead of him [Maguire].

Maguire was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge at the start of the year, with the 33-year-old’s contract set to expire at the end of the season.

It was claimed that Chelsea are open to signing Maguire as they look to add more experience to their backline.

The above means Maguire could end up partnering Chalobah at the heart of Chelsea’s defence next season, though a move still seems unlikely for now.

Levi Colwill will also be back from his ACL injury, so you would expect him to be one half of the Blues’ centre-back partnership in the 2026/27 campaign.

Trevoh Chalobah should go to World Cup

Chalobah has easily been Chelsea’s most consistent central defender this season. In fact, with Reece James playing a lot of games in midfield, he has arguably been the team’s most consistent defender, full stop.

The 26-year-old does the basics right. He clears the ball when he needs to, for example, but can also bring it out of defence.

According to WhoScored, Chalobah makes 5.7 clearances per game in the Premier League, which is the highest average in Liam Rosenior’s squad.

He has also managed to score a few goals in the top flight this season, netting three times. All in all, the England international is a pretty reliable defender. Tuchel has to take him to the World Cup.
