Belgian press react to Senne Lammens performance in 5-2 Belgium win vs USA

Senne Lammens has become the latest Manchester United player to represent his nation this weekend, playing in a 5-2 Belgium win over the USA.

For Senne Lammens, this international break sees him with a golden opportunity to stake a claim for the Belgium starting role this summer.

Lammens is benefiting from Thibaut Courtois’ injury, which has allowed the Manchester United number one to start and potentially prove he deserves a chance this summer.

This international break, Lammens has travelled to the USA, and on Saturday, his Belgium side clashed with the hosts of this summer’s World Cup.

Belgian press on Senne Lammens’ performance

Lammens started for Belgium against the USA, with the visitors to Atlanta, Georgia, walking out 5-2 victors.

After the game, the Belgian media had plenty to say about Lammens.

One outlet, GVA, wrote: “Senne Lammens, the best Belgian, made the save. The Manchester United goalkeeper also managed to distinguish himself, as he had to deal with quite a few shots on target.”

Meanwhile, Votebal Primeur praised the United goalkeeper.

“The United States showed itself to be sharp against the Red Devils. In the first half, the home team was the more dangerous, and Senne Lammens had to stretch several times to keep the Red Devils afloat.”

They even titled the article highlighting Lammens: “Red Devils record big win over USA, Doku, Lammens and Lukebakio shine”.

Finally, Sporza added to the praise for Lammens.

“With three superb reflexes, Senne Lammens single-handedly kept the Red Devils in the game during the first half-hour.”

Senne Lammens says he is happy being Thibaut Courtois’ back-up

While Lammens clearly put in a solid case to be considered a competition for Courtois, speaking with Sporza, he has now claimed he’s content backing up the Real Madrid keeper.

“There are clearly many good goalkeepers in Belgium. I am trying to seize my opportunity, and I am happy to be number 2 after Thibaut. I hope to finish as high as possible in the pecking order. Today, I certainly showed what I have already learned in England. I have experience, and I am keeping my goal with a lot of confidence.

“I am disappointed about the 2-5 at the end, but you have to be able to look past that a bit and finish the match with a good feeling. In more important matches, we won’t give away chances like that.”

Lammens made three saves in the game, with one particularly being brilliant. If he can continue to perform at this level, he won’t be long unseats Courtois.
