Barcelona have “offered” former Manchester City forward Ferran Torres in talks with Man United over Marcus Rashford’s future, according to reports.

The La Liga champions have the option to buy Rashford for €30m (£26m) this summer but they have limited financial resources.

As a result, the Catalan club would like to take Rashford on loan for another season. That proposal by itself would be deemed unacceptable for United, who were banking on the proceeds from the winger’s sale to fund their own transfer business.

However, TEAMtalk claim that Torres has been offered up as a sweetener. Both deals would be separate, but the Spanish international is a player of interest to the Red Devils.

Man Utd want to sign a forward this summer

Director of Football Jason Wilcox has prioritised a move for a left winger, with RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande and Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye top of his list of targets.

However, Torres would be a much cheaper solution than those two players, and his positional versatility makes him an even more attractive option.

The 26-year-old can play right across the front line, not only from the left flank. The money saved from recruiting him could then be used on signing a midfielder or potentially a left-back.

Is Torres open to returning to England?

It should be pointed out that the forward has never shown any interest in coming back to the Premier League following his departure from City in January 2022. He spent just 18 months at the Etihad.

However, Torres’s contract situation means he has to be open to other options. His current deal with Barcelona expires at the end of next season, and TEAMtalk report there is no sign that an extension is close to being agreed.

It gives United (and Arsenal, who have also shown interest in the player) an opening to secure his signature this summer.
