Ange Postecoglou opens up on 'brutal' Nottingham Forest sack 20 minutes after Chelsea loss

Nottingham Forest sacked Ange Postecoglou in October 2025.

Evangelos Marinakis gave Ange Postecoglou just eight games in charge at Nottingham Forest, spanning across 39 days.

Marinakis dismissed Postecoglou 20 minutes after Forest’s 3-0 Premier League defeat to Chelsea at the City Ground.

He’s playing so well at the moment…😍

The Australian head coach has just opened up on the sacking, speaking to SEN Football’s YouTube channel.

Ange Postecoglou was still in the City Ground corridors when Nottingham Forest sacked him

Postecoglou explained just how quickly he was sacked after the Chelsea game, noting that he felt people were looking at him walking around the corridors following the news.

“I mean, look, I mean, I haven’t told the story, but it was brutal, mate,” the 60-year-old stated.

“I mean, I literally got sacked straight after the game. You know what it is after the game, like, with a team of football, I’m in the coach’s room.

“I knew it was coming, so yeah, it was one of those, well, it could come any day now. But they literally sacked me straight after the game and then, you know, I haven’t done the press yet, but the press already know.

“I’m walking out into the corridors, you know, I just want to leave because I’m going to do something I regret.

“And then, you know, I had spoken with the assistant coaches who I knew also were probably going to be, well, you know, were going to be sacked.

“So I knew I needed to say something to them, but I’m doing this while walking through, you know, droves of people who are just all looking at me.”

Postecoglou added that Chelsea supporters were giving him stick as he drove home.

“And then I just wanted to get out of there. They said, you guys, you the security guards at Forest are really good guys.

“They said, Ange, I know you want to get out of here. All the roads are blocked in my car for about half an hour, just by myself.

“Yeah, I spoke to Georgia for a bit, and then after half an hour, they kind of, they said, look, Ange, the roads have opened, but there’s a lot of big traffic out there, so.

“And they did their best to try and give me through, but I got stuck at once at the traffic lights for at least, I reckon, 15 minutes, and the Chelsea supporters giving it to me, Forest supporters weren’t much kinder either.

“I’m sitting in the car, and then I get little kids coming up, asking for a selfie, and, you know, so what do you do? I mean, I don’t wanna disappoint.”

It’s been over five months since Postecoglou left the East Midlanders, and he’s now keen to get back into management.

The veteran manager has dispelled any rumours that he may retire.
