Geovany Quenda is closing in on a return to action after completing his rehabilitation at Chelsea.

Quenda is still a Sporting Lisbon player and does not join Chelsea until the summer, but the winger was recovering from a foot injury at Cobham.

Chelsea held Quenda back for a bit longer than expected amid concerns about loss of muscle mass after spending months on the sidelines. However, the 18-year-old now looks ready to return to the pitch.

Geovany Quenda could make his comeback for Sporting Lisbon against Arsenal

Quenda’s first match since picking up his foot injury in December is likely to be against Arsenal in the Champions League!

According to A Bola, Quenda arrived back in Portugal on Saturday and the first leg of Sporting’s Champions League quarter-final tie has been earmarked as a return date.

Sporting welcome Arsenal to the Jose Alvalade Stadium on 7 April, a game Chelsea fans are now likely to watch if Quenda features.

It will give them the chance to see what the Portugal Under-21 international can do and against an elite Premier League club.

Quenda certainly has the ability to cause Arsenal problems over both legs. He has impressed in the Champions League this season, scoring two goals and setting up another two in just five appearances.

According to WhoScored, Quenda is also making 1.6 key passes per game in the competition, which is the joint second-highest average in Rui Borges’ squad.

It will be interesting to see where Quenda plays at Chelsea next season. The Sporting academy product can be utilised on both wings.

As well as Quenda, Chelsea also signed Dario Essugo from Sporting, while another player could join them from the Portuguese club as well this summer.

It was recently reported that Chelsea have made contact over signing Maxi Araujo, so his name could be one to keep an eye on when the transfer window opens.
