GdS: Inter worried by Bastoni-Barcelona courtship – battle with Milan expected for replacement

AC Milan and Inter are set to contest a market derby to try and land Lazio star Mario Gila, according to a report.

For Inter, the premise is that Alessandro Bastoni joining Barcelona this summer is a possibility that’s far from ruled out. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Calciomercato.com), the Italy international would be open to joining Barca, and the Catalans are pressing hard.

Bastoni hasn’t and won’t ask to be sold but he is flattered by the interest from such a club. If Inter’s demands are matched by the Blaugrana’s, then a deal could actually materialise and a replacement would be needed.

Assuming that Inter value Bastoni at €70m plus bonuses minimum, if they were to sell him then Marotta and co. would have a nice nest egg. A centre-back would arrive but a new starting goalkeeper is needed, as are other pieces.

Intra-city competition

Mario Gila is one of the names that Inter are considering to potentially replace Bastoni, but there could well be yet another transfer derby between the Milanese clubs as Milan have been chasing him for some time too.

Gila was brought to Italy by none other than Igli Tare, AC Milan’s current sporting director, who could therefore have a fast track to snatching up the Spaniard. His contract expires in 2027 and a renewal is out of the question, so a sale feels inevitable.

The former Real Madrid man – who has also performed well playing with a back three – will be a hot property. Despite offers for him from the Premier League and LaLiga, the possibility of remaining in Italy cannot be ruled out.
