Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is making good progress in his return from a season-ending injury, but has been hit with a setback in another realm of his business career.
Mahomes this week shared a video showing his progression from a torn ACL and LCL, raising hope that he might be back in time for the start of the 2026 season. While Mahomes continues to work through his rehab, the swanky restaurant that he and teammate Travis Kelce opened is facing some tough news.
Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce Under Fire for Restaurant’s Prices
Mahomes and Kelce partnered on a Kansas City steakhouse called 1587 Prime, one that has quickly generated some buzz and become an unofficial party spot for the Chiefs team. While the press has been mostly positive, the pair were hit with a tough review this week that is now generating some viral interest.
As The Daily Mail reported, an online review shared on TikTok tore the restaurant for high prices and poor service, with the woman sharing the video calling it “the worst fine-dining experience” she’s ever had.
The reviewer shared that her drink order came wrong and took 20 minutes to fix, with the problems only spiralling from there. The service staff forgot the diner’s $15 steak sauce, and they barely saw the server during the dinner.
“My $100 steak was incorrectly cooked,” she said. “Couldn’t tell the server, you couldn’t even find the server to save your life. So just had to go with it, I guess. The fastest thing our server did was collect the bill. Our $650 bill.”
The review generated more viral interest, with other news outlets picking up on it to further elevate the bad news.
Mahomes and Kelce have faced some other unexpected battles with their restaurant. Earlier this year, a federal judge refused an emergency request to temporarily shut down the restaurant over a trademark dispute over the name “1587,” filed by the company 1587 Sneakers Inc., which claimed it had trademark rights to the number.
Patrick Mahomes Working on Return to the Field
Mahomes shared an important glimpse of his rehab progress this week, posting a video on Instagram that showed him throwing a football for the first time. While Mahomes has expressed confidence that he will be back to start the season, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport noted that it is still a complicated injury and a touchy rehab process.
“This is good news,” Rapoport said. “That said, there is still some uncertainty. There’s a lot of uncertainty because he is just three months out from a nine-to-twelve-month recovery.”
Rapoport added that the complicated nature of the injury makes the timeline less clear-cut than just a torn ACL alone.
“It is not just an ACL tear. It is also an LCL tear,” he said. “The knee can be a little stiff.”
The Chiefs have made a big investment on an insurance policy for Mahomes, trading for Justin Fields. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said this week that the team feels confident in Fields as a quarterback who can start if needed and win games for the team.
