The Chicago Bears made a business decision when trading away wide receiver DJ Moore. At least, according to general manager Ryan Poles.
“DJ’s one of my favorite players, will always be one of my favorite players,” Poles said. “I knew that that was going to be tough for our organization.”
However, it feels like a win-win situation for both the Bears and the Buffalo Bills.
Chicago was able to free up some much-needed cap space, along with receiving a 2026 second-round pick, and Buffalo was finally able to bring in an alpha WR for Josh Allen.
And despite Moore having a down year in 2025, Bills head coach Joe Brady doesn’t believe there’s any drop-off with Moore.
Joe Brady Sends A Message on Former Bears WR DJ Moore
Joe Brady, who served as Moore’s offensive coordinator during their time with the Carolina Panthers, still believes Moore is the same wide receiver he coached five years ago.
“You try not to go into it and be like, ‘Hey, I remember what the player was and let’s just do it.’ It’s natural in football,” Brady said. “Five years is a long time. But the player that I turned on the tape wasn’t any different in terms of the way that he moved, the skill set, the opportunity, the big plays, using him in a bunch of different ways. I saw that, and I didn’t see a guy that has had any drop-off. I saw a guy that there’s a clear vision for how we’re going to utilize him and get the ball in his hands. I know him and Josh, there’s been a lot of work this offseason getting him on the same page, but I’m really excited about where that’s gonna go.”
Moore has always been able to produce. He was just in a crowded offense in Chicago, sharing the field with guys like Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, Colston Loveland, and Cole Kmet.
When Moore was the only main pass catcher when first arriving in Chicago, he finished the season with 96 catches for 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns. That’s the player Brady still believes he has.
“I know the person, the player, the skill set,” Brady added. “I know we had a really good offense last year. Adding DJ to it should only make Josh’s life a lot easier and make Khalil Shakir’s life a lot easier. He’s dynamic and he’s going to make our team a lot better.”
Moore Commented on Being Traded From Chicago to Buffalo
Moore must have known that there was a good chance he would be traded this offseason, and said that he felt his time in Chicago “ran its course” despite last season ending on a “great note.”
“Last year was my first winning season, so I got a taste of what everybody has been getting a taste of here in Buffalo,” Moore said. “It was good. It was fun. The atmosphere was amazing. …I look forward to getting back there with the Bills and going further.”
Moore also sent a farewell message to Bears fans and the city of Chicago on an Instagram post, mentioning how appreciative he was for the love and support he received during his three years in Chicago and how he’ll miss the fans, his teammates, and the city.
It was best for DJ Moore to have a change of scenery, and it’s a great situation that he’s walking into with the Bills. Best of luck to him as he heads into a new stage of his NFL career.
