Manchester City have a decision to make regarding the future of the player this summer

Newcastle United are ‘interested’ in a move for Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford this summer, according to Football Insider. They could launch a swoop for the player in the next transfer window. His long-term future at the Etihad Stadium is up in the air right now.

Pep Guardiola’s side beat Arsenal 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final last time out. Nico O’Reilly scored both of their goals against the Gunners at Wembley in the second-half. Next up is an FA Cup quarter-finals clash against Liverpool next weekend.

Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford eyed by Newcastle United

City signed Trafford last year to bolster their goalkeeping department. He was brought back to become their number one. However, he has since had to play second fiddle behind Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Trafford, 23, has made 13 appearances in all competitions this season, only three of which have come in the Premier League. Therefore, an exit ahead of the next campaign would help him get some more game time under his belt. Newcastle could see him as someone to compete for their first choice position.

The Cumbria-born man rose up through City’s academy and was loaned out to the Football League as a youngsteer to Accrington Stanley and Bolton Wanderers to boost his development. Burnley then came calling and he was a hit during his time at Turf Moor. He played 73 matches altogether before heading out the exit door.

Following his return to City last year, Trafford said at the time: "Rejoining City is such a special and proud moment both for me and my family. I always dreamed that one day I would be able to come back to Manchester City. This is the place I call home - it's a truly special football club with fantastic people who make it such a unique place to work and play.

"I am also very excited and honoured to have been given the opportunity to work under Pep and with such a world-class group of players. I am still very young and hungry to keep learning and improving - and I know there is no better environment than Manchester City to help make me become the best goalkeeper I can be.”
