Tyrese Maxey becomes fastest player to reach 500+ points and 100+ assists in a season
Since taking over as the starting point guard for the Philadelphia 76ers, Tyrese Maxey has earned a lot of respect around the league.
As a two-time NBA All-Star, Maxey is established as one of the top guards in the league. He’s someone that veteran opponents praise, and veteran teammates are thrilled to play with.
For one of Maxey’s former teammates, Nicolas Batum, he shockingly included Maxey in his biggest career regret. The longtime forward wishes he had more time playing alongside the veteran guard when he was closer to his prime.

“If I have one regret, I wish I could have played longer with [Tyrese Maxey],” Batum said on the Old Man And The Three podcast.
“Maybe the only regret I would have in my career is like, he’s one of those guys like, I wish I could have played maybe longer with him. When I was younger—I was maybe too old now to play with him—but I wish I could be younger and play with him longer.”

Batum’s not the only well-respected longtime veteran to share his praise for Maxey. When the Sixers concluded their 2024-2025 NBA season, the veteran guard Kyle Lowry stated he would like to return to the Sixers to play with Maxey again. Sure enough, he inked a one-year deal to return to Philadelphia.
Those types of compliments continue to assure the Sixers that they have a top player and leader in Maxey running their backcourt.

Batum didn’t even get a full season with the Sixers.
Just three games into his fourth season with the Los Angeles Clippers, Batum was traded to the Sixers. He was one of four players headed to Philadelphia in the big James Harden deal.

Batum played in 57 games for the Sixers. He averaged 5.5 points (45.6% FG, 39.9% 3pt), 4.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists. At that point, Batum was 35 years old and already 16 years deep.
Maxey might’ve been a player of interest for Batum, but the star guard couldn’t keep him around this late into his career. Despite having interest from the 76ers, Batum signed a deal to return to the Clippers in 2024. He’s in the midst of his sixth season with the team. Batum is potentially closing out his second stint at the end of the year.
