The Philadelphia Eagles have signed former Chicago Bears pass rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka to a one-year deal, NBCS’ Dave Zangaro was the first to report.

“The Eagles are signing edge rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka to a one-year deal, Howie Roseman says.”

Chicago traded a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns during the NFL trade deadline last season to acquire Tryon-Shoyinka, who appeared in eight games with the Bears and racked up just 13 total tackles, eight pressures, and zero sacks.

It’s one thing to trade for a pass rusher when the team was dealing with multiple injuries on the defensive line, but it’s another to just waste a draft pick on a player who had little involvement on the team.

“It’s one of those deals where it feels like we take some strides at particular positions, then we take some steps back,” head coach Ben Johnson said regarding the trade for Tryon-Shoyinka during the season. “It’s wild. I felt like we had a solution there with [rookie] Shemar [Turner] at defensive end a couple weeks ago. Then we lost him. Then we finally get Booker back and we lose Dayo. So it’s a little bit of give and take. That’s, of course, the NFL season. That happens. And so we’ll have guys step up.”

The problem was that Tryon-Shoyinka turned out to be a bad investment, given that he provided little to the defense for the eight games he played in.

If Poles truly wants to address the issue at pass rusher, it can’t be sending late-round picks for guys who don’t have proven production. It’s time he addresses this issue head-on during the 2026 NFL Draft.

Bears Should Address the Issue at Pass Rusher During the 2026 NFL Draft

The Bears are extremely tight on funds right now. In fact, they are currently dead last in the NFL with just around $243,000 in available cap, according to OvertheCap.com.

So, going out and signing a pass rusher isn’t the solution.

What the solution is for Chicago should take is drafting a pass rusher in Round 1, possibly in both the first and second rounds.

And by me saying drafting a “pass rusher,” that could mean both a defensive end and a defensive tackle. The Bears should, ideally, come out of the draft adding both a DT and DE in the first two rounds, considering Chicago has picks 25, 57, and 60.

There are plenty of options at both positions for Chicago, with a lot of fans liking Missouri’s Zion Young at DE and Clemson’s Peter Woods at DT in Round 1, and Oklahoma’s Gracen Halton at DT and Penn State’s Dani Dennis-Sutton in Round 2.

Those aren’t the only options Chicago has, but there are a ton of different avenues the team could take to bring in some more juice on the defensive line, rather than just wasting late-round picks on players who will barely make an impact on the team like Tryon-Shoyinka.
