College softball: Ridgewater Warriors swept in weekend games

ROCHESTER — Minnesota North College-Rainy River and Minnesota North College-Itasca each defeated the Ridgewater softball team on Saturday under the dome at Rochester Regional Stadium.

Rainy River (5-13) opened Saturday’s games with a 7-4 victory over the Warriors, who saw its record fall to 1-3, before Itasca (3-9) jumped on Ridgewater to earn a 10-1 win in five innings.

The top of Itasca’s batting order got it done as the Vikings scored 10 runs in three innings.

Addison Linder, Itasca’s number four batter, was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and a run. Karley Sokoloski, Itasca’s number two batter, went 2-for-2 with three runs, two steals, one RBI and a walk.

Along with Linder, Bella Dunham, who led off for the Vikings, accounted for the only other base hit by an Itasca batter. Dunham went 1-for-2 with a pair of runs, an RBI and one walk. Then it was Sophia DeNucci in the third slot who batted 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a walk.

Linder also pitched in the circle for the Vikings and held Ridgewater’s offense to three hits.

Hannah Magnuson, a freshman shortstop from Willmar, went 1-for-3 and scored the team’s one run. Kylie Pauls, a freshman second baseman from Paynesville, was 1-for-2 with an RBI, a steal and a walk. Aly Wendlandt, a freshman first baseman from New London-Spicer, was 1-for-2.

Ridgewater, which led 4-2 through three innings against Rainy River, allowed five combined runs in the sixth and seventh, capped off by a solo home run by Kaylynn Fauve Mol.

EllaGrace Kellerby tossed a complete game for the Voyageurs. She struck out five batters and allowed seven hits and four runs — three earned.

Magnuson, Mallory Johnson and Nevaeh Rahm each had two hits for the Warriors in Game 1.

Ridgewater plays a doubleheader at Rochester Community and Technical College at 3 p.m. Friday.
